Default The Pilar Scores! Numbers, Pic's and Story

Written by Marty and requested to be posted by Pilar:

Quote:
The man, the myth, the legend… John boy aka Pilar braved the winds and choppy seas to bring back the first significant load of tuna into depoe bay.

Another ifisher was also there to load up on the tasty silver bullets. One boat got 15 and another boat got 10 but could have easily got more if additional ice had been on board to maintain the quality.

They found the longfins in 60 degree water near a big current break that had sea weed & floating debris spread out in a line. A fog bank marked the area where the warmer water was found.

John is heading back out tomorrow at 5:00am from Depoe Bay again!

If anyone else wants in on the hunt, they found the fish at 44 59.479 and 124 40.847.

Weather conditions are still windy and choppy, but John says that it laid down a little bit about 20 miles out.
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">I will post some pic's that Marty took in just a few after I feed my starving dog and edit the pic's.

Had a great day salmon fishing on the Sea Jypzee and been up all night, but promise a half dozen pic's within a few minutes.

Marty did mention when I picked up the report he had written that tomorrows forecast isn't for everybody. Johns boat is only around 20' I believe and he is a very salty one with oodles of experience out there.

I posted the forecast below and the wind waves are not condusive to small boats in my opinion especially for 30 miles offshore if and when they materialize. Currently it is blowing a bit in Depoe Bay.

Think about this one before you comit and maybe bring along salmon gear in case you decide it's not for you and catch the other silver fish.

Dan

Sat
N wind 15 kt...rising to 20 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 4 ft. NW swell 4 ft at 6 seconds. Chance of drizzle in the morning.
Sat Night
N wind 20 kt...easing to 15 kt after midnight. Wind waves 4 ft. NW swell 5 ft at 8 seconds.

I'd doubt the bar would be shut down tomorrow. Generally takes a pretty big swell offshore for it to wipe the hole out. Not that it doesn't or can't happen, but I would be very surprised if it did tomorrow.

Yes, we'll be running on 78 if you wanna give a shout. Also have CB with SSB on it.

Not sure exact course out of Newport. I'd guess about 330 degrees or so...use the numbers posted above and you will meet up with us though.

That was one killer weekend! I just now returned from that blood fest on the Pacific and it looked like I had O.J. Simpson on the boat with me. If this is just the start of things to come I may have to open up a cannery in the front yard.

Fri. I went out with Sailfish and we hooked up quick and pretty consistantly with purple and black, and Mexican Flag jigs. Sat. I ended up running solo and started very slowly then cried for about 2hrs. on the radio. Once Sea Jypzee finally quit hording all the fish, they gave out their #'s and things got hot and heavy. This is when I wished I had a deckhand because at one point I hooked up with a triple and land all three after about 20min. That was the easy part, slipping on all the blood in the boat was even more work than landing em.

Spreading boats over about a five mile radius is one awesome way to cover alot of water and get everyone in on the action. This is the most fun fishing a person could ever have, and I advise all of you to get out and slay.

Another killer weekend running with you Pilar, just next time we need a barbeque in the lot!!! I still haven't eaten any yet. Except for the sushimi while cleaning.

Gregotis - Sorry, didn't mean to be hogging all the fish. We all honestly figured you were all in the fish as much as us. Only report I'd heard from Pilar was that he had fish coming in the boat. Then shortly after that we started in on doubles and trips and the action didn't slow down for quite a while.

hehehe, you can figure that if it's real quiet, it's cause we're too busy to talk.

You salty ones catch 'em and I'll clean 'em for a loin or two of course.

3:08 pm and not even a breeze up at my place (July6th) and I am only approx. 4 blocks from the beach.

Way cool you ol' salty's.

Nice kiss at the carking station. I am glad that all of you had a fun and safe weekend.

I would gladly help crew for tuna next weekend if a salty dog has an open seat.
