7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
Went yesterday and got blown out, had to settle for a 25 pound chinook and some coho aboard the Julie Rose III.
Just got off the phone with Pilar, he has 15 in the box 30 miles off depoe in three hours of fishing, he is on his way in. Gregotis is still out there with 10 and climbing.

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
Fantastic!! Robalo Bill and I headed fully 40 miles out of Garibaldi on 7-3, found 60 degree water, but no fish. Glad to hear they're on their way!

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
I can confirm the Pilar report. Just met up with them at the docks while cleaning fish.
Tuna pack leaving at 05:00 am tomorrow morning for anyone interested in going. I'm taking the Sea Jypzee with 3 others on board. Pilar and at least one other boat will be along as well. Anyone else interested in joining, be ready to roll out at 05:00 in the morning from Depoe Bay!

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
From what Pilar said, it's 25-30 miles straight out of Depoe. Should be good. Come along!

Pilar's still cleaning fish. 5:00 at the boat dock yahoo. I'll be bringing 300 lbsor so of ice for Pilar. 7/5 could be stupendous.

Nancy,
i just have to say that you sound like a wonderful person. In the time I have been noticing your posts you have been helpful, and open--not to mention generous. It's a pleasure to have you "onboard" with the salty dogs.
Now, as for your offer--I am seriously considering asking the wife if she minds takin' the kids to the fireworks alone (I know she wont!).
I live in Rickreall, and could make it by 4:45 or so. Only problem is I am not geared up for tuna. I do own a suitable rod or 2, but one is loaded with 80# toughline, and the other with 50#. From what I understand--mono is what one should use. I also do not own any cedar plugs, poppers, or other tuna gear YET. If there's a place at the dock, I would by some though.
Disclaimer: I am salt encrusted and proven reliable in all conditions to many miles offshore--I am however 6'3 and 260 pounds. Don't know how big your vessel is, but thought you should know. I do share all expenses of course.
Post back if ya can--and thanks whether I make it or not!

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Myles - in looking at the above forcast, with 4' NW swell at 6 seconds, and a 4' wind wave on top of it, I'd expect it to be a rather uncomfortable ride in an 18' aluminum boat. Would you survive, probably, would you be happy, doubtful IMO. On the other hand, Pilar was out today in a 19' boat and seemed to do ok. I'm just getting old I guess... I like a comfortable ride.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">There are currently 3 of us confirmed on Sea Jypzee for tomorrow, with 1 additional possibility. Still waiting to hear about him. Hoping to hear anytime now.
As for the gear, I use PowerPro on my big reel that I use for tuna with no problem. Toughline should not be much different. As for jigs, I have a fairly decent selection available for use.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Boat is 30', so your size really makes no difference. Still waiting to hear if we'll have a seat though...so can't give a firm committment...sorry

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
Myles,
My personal opion says don't even think about it.
The wind might not come up as predicted but if it does and comes early you'll be hating life and have a stressful if not unsafe trip in my opinion.
I would wait 'till they are ten miles closer and a lot more suitable ocean if it were me.
Give the Coast Guard a call and ask there opinion. (541) 765-2124
I posted the report that Marty wrote up and pic's on a different thread.
Dan
PS> I might cancel and leave room for another saltier dog and I have a broken down van parked on hwy 101.

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
I stayed home anyway and let the wife do the fireworks thing--not a big fan of crowds...so I am available if a slot opens up. I can stay awake for another hour or 2, so I'll check back. Thanks.

Re: 7/4 depoe tuna, pilar and gregotis score
Thanks very much, I was wondering if I was being too conservitive, but better that way than the other. I was just thinking that maybe the ocean was OK in the morning then kicked up later. I've watched the buoy info, SST's, tides, and NOAA forcasts, they were just bad enough that I didn't want to make the 2 1/2 hr. drive but was hoping that maybe the mornings might be OK.
thanks for the opinion and if there is an open seat somewhere, I've got gear and will help fund your habits
