Default What gear and lures are needed for TUNA

With the garabaldi tuna report I thought I might try going out on Saturday to give it a go. After I hammer some salmon. One other thing, Is it better to fish tuna in the morning or the evening. Second thing is do they run in schools or do you find them random like salmon. And can you catch salmon while tuna fishing.?????? Any help or suggestions would be great. Also is any of you saltys going out of tillamook on saturday.

If you intend on running off shore far enough to catch tuna I would do it at the crack of o-dark thirty. I seems like the winds pick up later in the day. If you have energy/fuel/ice, on the way back in, stop and nab a few salmon.

Blue water is a very scary place for a salmon to be. Also it is a little warm.

Now to climb on board with dewfish. IF a guy knows what he wants, where is the best place to stock up on tuna gear? Fishermans, Englands Marine, catalogs, internet?

Dewfish, I suggest you do a search and type words like "techniques for tuna" or "tuna gear". There should be about 1000 pages worth of data done just in the last year.

You've got to be prepared to go a long way out, have tons of ice onboard, know how to take care of them once they get in the boat, etc..

Good luck.
