Default No Tuna for Marty Today July 1, 2003

Was down at the docks a little while ago when Marty came in. Unfortunately he and his guest didn’t find any albie’s.

Said they went out about 40 miles, found water up to 59.6 or 60 degrees, no good breaks, and seaweed scattered. Tried the Pilar spot, Corrirod spot, the “61” spot and where some of the halibut guys caught some last week. Nothing. No signs of them.

Said it was do-able but there was some chop and averaged only 15 knots on the way out. He said tomorrow it’s suppose to pick up a bit.

They did pick up a few Chinooks on the way back in (following two pic’s) and he might write me up a report to post later.

If you have any questions for him I suppose I could go down there and ask him (I’m only 4 blocks from the port docks).

Dan

Charter Boat Jamborre out of Dockside Charters with happy customer and his 33# chinook. Caught on an afternoon coho trip. Bill the skipper limited out the boat on his earlier chinook trip with chinook.

Hey Dan, I just got off the phone with Marty and heard the same story. He added that there was no sign of feed, birds, nada. The 2 pm Coastwatch shot is partially clouded over, right where we need to see it. So it's hard to tell if there are any good temp breaks off Depoe. We'll wait for the next shot and see how it looks. If no new info, it would seem to be a real crap shoot for tuna tomorrow. But salmon is indeed the better bet.

Are there any other reports out there from today, with additional info on feed, temp breaks, or water color? Thx....Mark

Hmmmm, not sounding too favorable for chasing tuna so far. I heard a couple of days ago that they (commercial tuna guys) were out around 75 miles offshore or more.

Hey Miss B Haven, Marty did mention when he was talking to me and Nancy (Sea Jypzee) that off of Garibaldi might be a good bet!

Of course he said they were slaying them off of Fort Brag and that's a bit of a run out of Depoe.

Sure is a nice guy. Very low key.

He is going salmon fishing tomorrow although he is burned out on salmon and wants to chase the long fin. Guess that about sums up his thoughts on the prospects of tuna tomorrow and the forecast.

Got a couple of ifisher's down fishing the rocks at a new spot I sent them so I better go and see how they are doing and hopefully take a pic of a fish or two.

I am a wussy!
Went out of Depoe and only fished salmon today...silvers only. Two days without a chinook! Need help. Need tuna. Love Depoe Bay!!!!! I love that port. I am thinking that it is now my port of choice, even without tuna!

WP, how deep are you fishing for chinook? Yesterday at Garibaldi all our chinook were more than 100 feet down. When we brought our gear up to the 15-20 foot range, we started slaying slivers.

Thanks Pete,
I have been fishing in 35-80 feet. At Newport was getting 50% chinook...giess I'll have to try deeper. Hard to drop through that many silvers though! I have been using spoons and other hardware. Maybe whole herring would be better....I hate bait!
