2008 Archery elk! PICs
Well the season ended in a great way for me and my hunting partner.
I had spend alot of time chasing mule deer and elk and finally gave up on mule deer because the rutting action was getting really good.
My friends bull is a good 6x6 that she was able to stick on the 2nd weekend of the season. We hunted slightly different areas and I was able to call this bull about within 10 yards past her. I was set-up about 80 yards behind her and the bull had no idea, he went about 60 yards and expired instantly. This is her second bull with archery gear as I called in a bull for her last year as well. She was very happy and tha bull had a huge body!!!
Now something that I have struggled with is failing this year. Each time I have failed or blown a stock it makes me a little more nervous the next time. Something else as well is I am always the caller. This is only the second elk archery tag I have ever had in my pocket I was worried about finding a caller. Well it turns out my friend taugh herself very quickly and sounds just as good as anyone I know. That being said she called in this herd bull for me at about 8:30 on saturday the 27th. He came about 10-15 yards away and didnt even know I was there and only went about 80 yards or so before expiring. This is my first archery animal and wont be my last. The best part was being able to call the bulls in for one another, I think we make a pretty good team if I may say so myself!!!!!!!!

Re: 2008 Archery elk! PICs
I would like to say thanks to everyone who has posted pictures of their kills this year, it has really inspired me even though I didnt get to post on many. I almost gave up more than ounce and now I am not sure I will ever go back to rifle.

I hear ya...pretty darn exciting. But hunting elk with a rifle is pretty exciting as well. I almost gave up more than once myself. Good job for sticking with it.

Re: 2008 Archery elk! PICs
I knew that you could pull it out and get it done . With the amount of animals that you were seeing, it wasn't going to take long to get it all put together. Nice looking bull and you better keep your hunting partner around for along time to come . Great job and thanks for taking the time to show us what happens when it all comes together.

You do make a very good team.
It's gonna take a lot of taters to get through all that elk meat.

Re: 2008 Archery elk! PICs
Way to stick with it Traks! Nice looking bulls you two killed.
I've been bowhunting every season since 1987 and there are still times I think that a 4 day rifle season might be the way to go but I always get over it. I'm guessing your stuck with a lifetime of frustration with an occasional moment of glory mixed in. It's what makes it so dang fun!

Re: 2008 Archery elk! PICs
Way to go You might want to keep that hunting partner around - looks good, calls in elk for you, and brings luck - what more can you ask for!!!

Re: 2008 Archery elk! PICs
Nice job on the elk. Meat in the freezer. The experience of calling in elk for hunting partners (or kids) is one of the most satisfying things to do while hunting. Not all people can call elk into bow range. That is the fun.

Way to go on the team work. Nice shooting of the arrows and photos too.
How many miles apart were those two bulls. The antlers seem to have simular form. They look to be the same age too. Just my guessing.

Bulls were about 1.5 miles apart as the crow flys. The more interesting part is looking at my bull from 2005 with a rifle and this years archery bull you can see alot of similarities. Look as those thirds and where they start.
