Default What glue to use to hold down the vinyl floor

I've got the wood primed, the vinyl floor laid out, and tested gluing it down with some outdoor carpet glue - which did not look like it works. Any recommendations on how to attach a vinyl floor to a wood painted surface? Thanks!

Because your wood is sealed and the vinyl is pretty much impervious to solvents, it will take quite a while for a solvent based glue to set up. But, I have used outdoor carpet adhesive several times and had good results. It just takes awhile, but once it dries it is really there for good!

Good luck!

Ok - so what I'm hearing is Patience, Grasshopper! Ok, I'll quit watching it dry!

Used Contact Cement On My Plywood Floor. Seem To Hold Ok. Good Idea To Have Someone Help. Four Hands Are Better The Two.

Use 3 M spray on contact cement. It comes a large Sray can. Make sure to apply it to both surfaces and let stand for 5 t0 10 min be for you stick
the vinyl down on to the ply wood. This stuff will the job and last for
ever. It's what the pro's use. One thing, keep it off your hands. Takes
for ever to come off on it's own.

Do a Google search for Defender. They sell the Nautolex marine vinyl, and the Nautolex brand adhesive to put it down with. I'm doing my floor's tomorrow, and Defender is where I got my supplies.

Contact cement in the half gallon cans (Home Depot). Even way better idea: Set up an appointment with Bentley's Boat Tops and have them glue down the vinyl. I started to do it myself on my boat, and abandoned the idea 15 minutes in to it. Luckily I didn't ruin the new vinyl in the process and I got the contact cement off the floor with some adhesive remover. It took a skilled craftsman 2 hours to apply the vinyl, and after I saw all of the little tricks he used to do the job right, I was really glad that I bailed out of doing it myself!
