Windblown and Fishless In Newport today
At I launched in Newport today at 7AM. We cleared the North Jetty and headed in a NW direction. At about 150' we saw a couple fish at about 15' so we started trolling. And trolling and trolling. Finally about 10 AM, fish on. A nice chinook rolled to the surface, took one look and said adios boys. I'm sure he is headed for Brookings, as he went South.
While somewhat dissapointed, Lucky Luke and I felt somewhat good about just hooking the fish on our first Salt Water Assult. We headed in about 11:30 and hit Spirit Mt Casino for lunch on the way home. That, plus the one chinook on, made it al worth getting up at 3:30 worth while.
Score, Fish won ( 1 ) to nothing but we had a great lunch. As we were loading the boat, we talked to the fish checkers and they had not seen one Salmon all day. We were told the cold water pushed the Salmon out several miles. Water Temp was 45 to 47 degrees. All in all, we had a good day and found that the heavy seas, swells and wind chop was not to bad.

Re: Windblown and Fishless In Newport today
Pretty slow I heard in Dopey Bay today also although he said the smaller 6-pack boats did alright. They have hydraulic down riggers though and were probably getting them pretty deep (coho & chinook).
The afternoon boats, well, let's just say there was a lot of chummin' going on.

Re: Windblown and Fishless In Newport today
hound... thanks for the info on the Englunds sale... just don't tell Skein... he just got over the pain and suffering fron his last trip there... and needs to save his energy (and $$$) for his new toy. When's the delivery date again???
The hospital said the pain was from the stones... but I really suspect it was Englunds withdrawl.

Awwww, Hound, why'dja go and tell me that?
My whole family is coming to my place over the 4th for a big get-together. Hmmm....wonder if they'd like to go to the coast while they're here?
Funny, but Janis said if she caught me in Englund's again, that kidney stone was going to be the second worst pain I've ever felt.
Wonder what those neato Garmin 188c GPS's are gonna go for?

Re: Windblown and Fishless In Newport today
Well perhaps we need to organize the Englunds Fishing Circuit for the months of July and August. That way we won't miss anything!
"Ouch!" (wife just hit me on the backside of the head)
whisper.....I'll have to put the details together a little later.
