I was given a bunch of old fishing tackle by a neighbor that had to give up fishing the salt and it in were a bunch of the apex's in green, black and pearl. Has anybody used one of these and how do you like them?
I was also given a bunch of pt. defiance spoons and was wondering about those as well. any opinions??
Thanks- David

Hi David, the Apex's are quite good for ocean salmon, although one usually hears other colors being used than the ones you mention (such as "watermelon"). I'd try that pearl first, then the green. If they have the stock leaders from the package, it's wise to change them. Completely re-rig with better line, a better hook (like a mustad 4/0 stainless), and get rid of that chain swivel if it has it.

The Pt Defiance is also a good one in clear water especially. Use a light leader, and either tie it directly to the eye or use a very small snap.

Always fun to come across old gear!
