Default Breathable wader repair

So, I don't want to get into a debate about wader types, but I am hard on waders. I haven't had a pair I could not hole in just a few hunts. Barbed wire, thorns, rusty nails, waders get holes.

So on breathables, how do you fix them? I usually back them with duct tape, and then put a smear of marine Goop adhesive across the front of the hole. This works pretty well, and the duct tape on the inside will work for a while in the field, if you have an emergency. Camo duct tape is a good thing to have in the blind bag.

Mine came with an iron on patch kit that works really sweet. Maybe you can buy that kind of kit at the store.

Thumbs up Re: Breathable wader repair

Mine came with some seam tape that I cut a small piece of and then iron on the inside of the wader. On the outside I take some aquaseal and spread that over the hole. Hasn't leaked since I did it.

Kurt, same as Neo's.......Aqua Seal.
Clean area to repair w/ 99% IPA Alcohol, inside and outside. Cut a section of Glad Freezer bag, larger that the area to repair. Lay wader flat and put a little Aqua Seal on inside and smear around w/ toothpick to get it really stuck on. Place section of freezer bag over the aqua-sealed area on inside and lay flat. Now apply aqua-seal to outside, again using toothpick, Try not to work too many bubbles into the aqua-seal.
Let dry and cure for 24hrs.
Peal off freezer bag on inside.
Done.

Repairs to beathables are same as neo. Aqua Seal.....or Hodgmans brand, same stuff.

Kurt,

Depends on the kind of breach. Small puncture/pin hole is Aquaseal. Small tear/rip is a repair kit iron on w/Aquaseal.

I am on three years with mind and do about 20-25 hunts a year and at the start of each season I look for the holes. I am pretty tough on waders too. What is failing most often now is where the wader joins the boot and the insides of the thighs. Might be time for a new pair.

To fix, hang from something sturdy, fill with water, look for beads of water, circle with sharpie/waterproof marker, repair.

Works like a charm.

Loon makes a quick repair glue that is awesome for quick fixes. even works when the material is wet, but i cannot remember the name of it at the moment.
Aquaseal for most fixes though.

A handful of companies make breathable wader repiar kits (e.g., Hodgeman, Simms, etc.) and you can buy Gore Tex repair kits from most of the outdoor shops. Bummer is, you can't find them in a camo to match you wader!

But, all they are is a piece of waterproof breathable fabric and a tube of Aqua Seal. I'd just patch it like the other guys suggested. If you really wanna get fancy, get a yard of a waterproof breathable fabric in a camo-ish color and cut patches as needed. Glue them on using Aqua Seal and call it good.

Never had to patch my breatheables, but I've patched a couple jackets this way and it worked great.
