Default Fishing Off The Jetty At Fort Steven

I'll be driving to Fort Steven Sunday halling 4 horse for my daughters 4H group and though I'll fish off the jetty while they ride. What should I use for bait and how far down the jetty should I walk before I start casting.

Thanks

Be carefull when you fish off of the jetty. the rocks are slippery and you can get hurt very quick if you fall on a slippery rock, think safety.

But you might use clam pieces for bait and catch a sea perch on the incomeing tide.

Good luck.

Been many a year since I fished that south jetty.
If I remember right you need to walk a long ways out there before you can catch rockfish. I think it was all the way out to the bend in the jetty and you fished the outside (ocean side) instead of the usual river side.

I don't think it is open yet but fishermen used to catch salmon off the south jetty without a long hike. There used to be a store I think was called corkie's or something or rather and they could give you info.

The north jetty is really awesome for bobber fishing salmon and rockfish and doesn't require a long hike. Fort Canby State Park. Requires a Washington salt water license though.

All the times I ever caught salmon off the jetty we still have the beach behind, we did not have to go that far out. At times it can be awesome fishing, as soon as you can get your bait in the water you would have a silver salmon on. We fished a setup similar to sturgeon fishing, put the weight on a slider and rig the herring up backwards, put a cork float about 18 inches above your herring. Use about 8 to 10 ounces of lead.
Ya either check out corkies or Rosalies (ft stevens charters)
