Default Tuna trip??

Hey Dogs,
Is anyone interested in attempting a tuna hunt on Wednesday or Thursday out of Depoe Bay? It looks like the ocean is going to cooperate some and if the temperatures and breaks are present, it could be a great time to get a first wolf pack in. I am "chicken" enough to not want to wander around the tuna grounds alone so am interested in having at least one other boat to hunt with. All interested, lets get it organized and make it happen! I can "feel" the pull now!

WP - I can't do it wednesday (need to work at least one day this week), but depending on how things go in prepping the boat sunday and monday, I might be game for a thursday trip, though friday/sat/sun might be more likely ready.

Will have to see how much I can get done on the boat and if anyone else is interested.

WP - you better check the thread "Spread em Out" the SST is showing cold water out a ways down south but it's in real close up at Tillamook. (regardless of differences in temp they show, all show the bloom right up to the beach out of T-bay).

Might change by Weds, keep an eye on the SST.

I will be fishing salmon starting Monday or Tuesday and should have a pretty good idea of the weather by Tuesday night. I will also watch the SST's for appropriate temps and breaks. Salmonator, I will post what I see and hear. Nancy, I can't go Friday but can take time off anytime after that. I hope your boat is ready to go Thursday. I would love to have an experienced skipper, like yourself, out there with me! I do hope the fishiong gods are looking at us favorably.

Hi Dave, if we both put out the same good vibes maybe we can summon Marty to the keyboard, as he is probably thinking along the same lines you are. Together now: Maaaarteeee....tuuuunaaa plaaans....

And I am sending out the no-meeting-or-crisis-at-work vibes for Wed/Thurs next week too.

Wednesday is starting to look really good so I'd like to join. The big question is with the SST's the way they are , is it Barview or Depoe? If I drive from Hillsboro to Depoe I'll probably sleep in the back of the truck and go Thursday too. I may have room for an experienced crew member.

If someone has room for a wannabe waiting for his boat, I would love to go Wednesday. I have a bunch of gear and the desire to get it wet.

We are looking at Thursday, Friday and /or Saturday. Wednesday is also looking good but Jennifer is having a fit of dedication to her job and is resisting the urge to TUNA! fish on Wednesday.

I am working on this as we speak`. Your help is greatly appreciated in this regard. E-mail would do nicely.

You can reach Jen at (503) 348 0767.

Help Jen understand the relative importance of work vs TUNA!

Thanking you in advance .. your humble imbedded reporter in the war on Al Ba Core.

John,
remind Jen that work will be there for the days we can't go tuna hunting! It is a matter of day selection! I am dedicated to my job too...just have to keep in mind the need to have balance in my life...tuna on one hand, everything else on the other!
I am thinking Wednesday...sleep over night in the rig...go Thursday...come home and process the catch and be back at work Friday night. If the water and the fishing justify it....take Saturday off and keep hitting it. I am stoked. You might show her one of the pictures of blooded boats and fisherman as a reminder!

Tuesday (maybe Monday too!) is for salmon! At least that is my current plan! I am thinking this may be a great weekend! I hope the body and the boat have fully recovered from last weeks adventures by then.

I can run Thursday, Friday, or Saturday but it has to be out of Newport. No stinking Trailer.

Not sure when Kurt is planning to join us or for how long. I better call him.

I am set up for Tuna on Wednesday and Thursday. If there are no constraints from weather and temps. I plan to leave Depoe on Wednesday morning at 0500. Hope to have a few of you join the hunt! Depending on QWednesday and natural limiters, Thursday should be about the same plan. Head for the break line and 57-58 degrees and let'em out. This could be really fun! Salmonator, Myles, Crabbait, Pilar, Mark, Sea Jypzee, and Fishplay..lets get them boats a movin' and the tuna a bleedin'. For Crabbait, I would hope there was a seat somewhere? For Fishplay, how much of a run difference is it from Newport? I would hate to have the extra miles but the down hill run in the afternoon would not be bad. It is getting close...I can feel the heat and the sweat down my back....love the adreneline. Here fishy fishy!

Crabbait, I've got room if everything works out, check your mail. My wifes aunt was given maybe a couple of days to live so she will be going out of town Tues. evening so it should still work out.
My plan as of now is to leave Hillboro @ 2:30 AM Wed., sleep in the back of the truck and hit it Thur., then drive home.

I can probably handle a run thursday if I can get the boat all set up. If I go thursday, I will have room for a few folks if anyone needs a seat. Should be able handle at least 3-4 people comfortably for tuna.

Is there a good spot around Depoe to sleep in a rig? I realize most public ramps might not be the best place and Newport has basically made it a crime to sleep if you haven't paid somebody at least 15 bucks. I'm taking the crumb-crunchers (my three bouys  ) tuesday and hopefully overnight for wednesday also. I really don't want to drag them more than 30 miles offshore unless it's flat so I'm primarily out for coho. Can anyone direct me to some silvers @ depoe and hopefully a place to park and crash in the rig for the night? Many thanks... Joe

I believe that most Walmarts allow the overnight thing in their parking lots. it is a common practice for RV'ers who just want to pull over and sleep for the night, that and walmart is everywhere.

Just check with the store manager.....

I'm not sure but I thought Newport had some city ordinance (vacationers trap) against sleeping in parking lots. I know they used to let people sleep in the Costco lot in Warrenton, one of the reasons I bought a membership there.

SJ, If you have the room I would like to tag along on Thursday. Never done the Tuna thing but am an experienced deck hand and know my way around. Let me know and I will help out with what ever you need. Like (Rick) says it needs scratching.

Joe, they won't bother you at the end of the road by the aquarium in Newport. That is 'Puffins' go to roadside home. Just park by the guardrail and crash.

We are set with the boat in storage at Newport. I am going to try driving down Tuesday or Wednesday with Jen. We will hit Thursday for sure and Wednesday if possible.

The Ocean is in charge here as Rod will soon find out. It is a different deal fishing for fun vs. fishing because you have to pay the bills. I watched the fishermen in my family struggle with this difference for most of my life.
