Re: Rogue Half Pounders - reports?
Sorry this is late... trip report:
Arrived GB Sunday the 5th. Settled in to the house and geared up. Monday morning went out with a guide to locate fish. Put in at Satan Cr. and ran up to Agness. Great fishing, many BIG 'pounders. Red was the color. Red prince, red ant, coachman... anything red fished 6" to 12" under the surface worked. Had numerous doubles and two triples. Fish were bright and big. Did I mention the fish were noticably bigger than last year?? =8)
Action slowed the further down we went. I think we cought the lower end of the migration. If they were Agness to SC last week, I'd definitely concentrate on Agness on up now.
Tuesday we dumped the driftboat in off the gravel bar below the Illinios Bridge. Same basic story, good action for the first 5 miles. Sun came out and the bite died... or... we drifted below the main body of 'pounders. Switched to dries and action was slow but picked up several VERY nice hatchry 'bows. Biggest went close to 16". ok ok... it was closer to 14" but it sure was a big fat healthy clipped 'bow. Took a size 12 orange elk hair caddis.
Wednesday found dad feeling a might poorly, food poisoning near as we can tell. So we did the short 4 mile drift from Satan to Lobster. Nothing worth mentioning. Caught every kind of smolt possible, but no adults.
Disclaimer: We fish strictly with barbless, all fish caught were released at the boat, no nets were used and no fish were killed in the production of this great fishing memory of fall 'pounder fishing on the Rogue. Please do the same!
