Please help me anchor!
The boat fund is dwindeling fast and I need an anchor. Anyone have an anchor sufficent for a 28ft boat or know where I can find one cheap.
I think I need a bruce or danforth type.
I also need line for it. Is 300ft enough?
Mel, do you still have that spare line? If so I would like to purchase it.

Re: Please help me anchor!
Fishplay,
I usually use 80lb Tuff line with a 16/0 circle.
Kidding aside, have you tried ebay? I searched on "boat anchors" and came up with a few that might work. Here's a couple that looked interesting.
anchor
chain and 300' rode
Skein

Re: Please help me anchor!
Ha- I just responded to your other post!
Lemme see what I have. My old Sturg rope for bonne is a nice soft woven 3/8 but it's probably not strong enough for a real anchor situation (storm) on your boat. You want a 1/2' minimum and at least a 22 lb Bruce or Delta.
You just looking for an emergency anchor? I might be able to loan you something till "your ship comes in". I've got a full backup setup in Miss B that's never been used.
Skein - is that really you or is that Janice playing you? That's just the rope/chain, but it's a start. That guy has a 400ft 1/2" with chain for 119 bucks too- in his store. Better deal, I'd rather have the length than 1/2 vs 5/8 on that 28 footer. You'll pull the anchor before you ever break 400 feet of stretchy 1/2 nylon (or pull the cleat out).

Re: Please help me anchor!
Thanks guy's. The storm thing I guess is always a possibility but I don't plan to use the boat for cruising, just fishing trips.
I have no business being out in a storm and with todays technology should not find myself caught in one.
What I do want is to be able to anchor up in Newport bay for sturgies and between pulls when crabbing.
Or should a major breakdown force me to anchor up.
I think 3/8 should work for that.
I placed an e-mail to the fella in BC for a price on a 25lb Bruce. Will a Bruce work in mud? The tang on them seems small.

Re: Please help me anchor!
Should be a 22lb Bruce (11 kg). It will work just fine. They don't have as much holding power as a Danforth in soft stuff but most bays are hard mud. The place you hit really soft mud is in backwaters in the fresh water rivers (CR) where all the silt settles in each winter. Holding in bays is easy (all relative).
You won't have much depth to worry about scope either. If that's all you are doing then 100 ft rope is all you need for now. 1/2 inch is a lot easier to pull by hand than 3/8 by the way, the bigger the better on your grip.
You'll need to carry a lot more for an emergency anchor situation. If you lose power or steerage offshore you want to be able to drop the hook out at 100 feet or so before you drift into the surf or rocks. THat's going to take at least 500 feet with lots of chain and a good hook.
Call me- we'll chat. Now that I know what you're doing - I got some options for ya.

Re: Please help me anchor!
I have a Pilar special river anchor (rocking chair) set up with 400' of rope and a buoy available for you to borrow for the rest of the year. If you want it, I will bring it down for our tuna adventure.

Re: Please help me anchor!
I was going to loan him the same thing from my starcraft- If you're going down there it would be much easier. It'll do fine as an emergency anchor too.

FP!!!!
I have one ( in the barn  ) that you can borrow. It's an aluminum danforth, but it's big enough to anchoe a 35' boat.
I'll talk to you Friday about it.

Re: Please help me anchor!
Come to think of it, I think I have one you could have Greg. It would work perfectly on your boat. It's too big for mine.
If I don't get down to Depoe this weekend I could send it with someone else, maybe Pilar/Jen? Might even have 100-150 ft. of line laying around too.
Let me know.

Re: Please help me anchor!
Thanks guy's but I'm really not into borrowing things. I have a rocking chair already but didn't think it would hold in the upper bay (mud) in the wind.
Rod, I sent an e-mail your way. I'm buying 300ft of 1/2" rode tonight. 4 or 5 hundred would be better but this will get me by.
Man you Dogs are the BEST!

Re: Please help me anchor!
FP,
Not like borrowing? What about my good chains
You can have the anchor long term. It has 10' or more of 3/8 chain on it.

Re: Please help me anchor!
Much different situation here Keta. With the chains I had one lane of the ramp blocked on Hali weekend and an axle puking out from under a 10,000lb pound boat.
Even with that, had I known then that your chains were high strength lifting chain I would have come up with an alternative.
I feel terrible about giving those brand new and very expensive chains a salt water bath.
Hence the reason I don't like borrowing.
Your offer is generous and appreciated good buddy but lets see what Rod has for me.
Did you see that I changed my cell number.
Give me a call at 503-580-0404.
