A starry flounder came into Depoe Bay Saturday caught by a private boat trolling for salmon.

It wasn't all that big and the first starry I have seen in years.

deefly,
I caught a bunch of flounder at Seaside last month in the Necanicum. I would guess that they would still be in there. Sand shrimp on the incoming tide did the trick.

Thanks Lovesto:
I will have to give that a try. perhaps you could indicate where you were or email me for good places to try. We used to take them bouncing red yarn over the bottom in Yaquina Bay. (1960s) Is there a bait ship in Seaside? There couldnt be a fly shop!
Many thanks to all

I just fished on the beach at the viewpoint behind the High School. It's easy to find and there are several places to buy bait in town.

If you are planning on fishing seaside, head up a little further and fish right out of Hammond. Fish where the flag pole used to be in 8 feet of water. We have caught a lot of flounder over the past couple of years in that area.

Many thanks for the tips! I will be seeing if Jackobe wants to try this out. We dont have a boat and mobility is limited. If we could just find a few good shore sites, we'd be set! Ill keep alook out for the school and shops! Boy, do those flouder fight!

When I was younger I used to catch them by hand. Don't know of many places that this can be practiced? But if you can find some flowing water over sand walk along it. If you get close to a flounder it'll often bolt a way and bury itself in the sand. Go to where it buried itself. You should be able to see a bit of the flounders outline. Quickly pin the flounder with one hand, and use the other to dig him out. It's a fun and different way to catch them. The most I ever got in a day was 3 and the only time this worked for me was in the fall/winter.
