S.Coast Tuna Report
Well the only report we have is that there aren't any! We watched the SST's closely and finally found good water approx. 25-20 miles out and decided to go for it hearing of a few nailed up north. To say the least either the website was a little off or the water changed because we went out to 37 miles and the closest we got was 57 degree water. Not good, no crystal blue water or anything, very very cold and a long boat ride without wetting a line.
Oh did I mention the water pump went out at 28 miles out? Thankfully we don't make these trips without a buddy and he managed to tow us back to port at a ripping 5 mph. Got to see a lot more of the ocean today than hoped for.

Re: S.Coast Tuna Report
TC Did you look at the SST's when we came back?
We should have headed South, looks like the best water was opposite Coos. Of course this was at 2:30 and not at daybreak after a stiff wind after the last picture was taken. Oh well, will try again as long as we don't get the winds the night before to mess up the water temps. Glad you made it back ok. We stopped for a while opposite the twins and got a nice 32" nook and a bunch of throw backs.

Re: S.Coast Tuna Report
Well, this makes me feel a little better. We went out of Charleston Saturday. Approximately 5 miles SW the water temps jumped from 52.7 deg to 57.9. It wasn't the clear blue, but it got me thinking I shoulda had my tuna gear in the boat and DEFINETELY had me eyeballing the western horizon. We ended up w/3 nooks and one nice silver. Lots of small silvers roaming.
It won't be long...

Re: S.Coast Tuna Report
No we didn't bother with the SST's, I was pretty tired and ready for a nap when we hit the dock. The old man was pretty peeved at his boat also. Probably could get a good price on it right now until he calms down a bit. As of the temps that were close, we noticed them also running out. It got us excited jumping up so quick and then around 16 miles out the temps fell off the wrong direction and went back down to 55-54. Doesn't look like the conditions this week will help any. 30 Knot winds from the N-NW won't do anything for the tuna that's for sure.

Tailchaser,
Thanks very much for the effort and the update. I and the rest of us that fish your neck of the woods appreciate the effort. Too bad about the boat problems.
Did you run out of Port Orford or Coos Bay?

Re: S.Coast Tuna Report
I'm always eager to do the exploring, but days like this one need to be put in the back of the mind before we make a pre-july tuna trip again. And we launched out of Coos Bay. Port Orford is still very cold in terms of tunies, probably good salmon though.
