I have a Sportsman 16 with a 90 Merc 2 stroke. Had a 60 four stroke first and hated it. 90 is about right unless you're VERY patient. If I had a do-over, I would go 18' and 115.

I have the 16' with a 60 Yami pump. It works fine but you won't win any races. It came with the boat so I'm using it but would like the 90hp. If I was buying new or had a choice, it would be easy the 90 pump would be idea. Great boat.

One other thing, 4 stroke or 2 stroke? Mine is a 2 stroke so it is lighter and has more power. The guy at Stevens advised me to get the 2 stroke (90 hp) for the quicker plane but a 4 stroke kicker for trolling. It is a good combo and that way the weight of 4 strokes won't be an issue. He also said the 50 is just too small. They will sell it to you but it will be under powered and you don't want that in skinny water. It's a good boat but you won't be happy with the 50 hp 2 or 4 stroke. Just my 2 cents and my experience with the salesman at Stevens. They are great in my opinion.
