After much anticipation Vickie and I drove to Newport Friday to meet up with Taylor's Viewpoint and Keta for our first trip out to the Ranch for FB's on Saturday. Friday was Vickie's first day of her vacation and she was really looking forward to an adventure to start things off.
When we arrived in town, we headed straight for the marina to see how the days catch had been. As we were standing at the fish cleaning station, we saw this guy standing there boning a halibut. He and his crew were having WAY too much fun cleaning fish, laughing, joking and just generally having a good time. After a while I said to Vickie "Let's see if we can find Pilar". He was the only Salty Dog I who's face I would recognize, and I wanted to see how he did that day. Well, this guy cleaning fish says "Hey, are you going fishing with Jon?". I say "No, we're going out with a guy on ifish named Taylor's Viewpoint". "That's me" he says. As it turns out we were stand there watching Taylors Viewpoint, Skein, Dipseadiver, and 8knot cleaning their catch.!!
After getting checked into our motel room, went we went over to fish camp to meet some of the dogs. We met up again with TV, Skein and Dipseadiver. Later we met Keta, Hogemin, Coririd, WP, Bluebeast, Ragnar, and of course Pilar, who was heavily under the influence..........of Tuna that is. I know I missed somebody, it seemed like all the dogs were there! It was really cool to be able to put faces with all of the names here on ifish. What great bunch of people.
The next morning we met up with TV and Keta. The ocean was quite bit rougher than the day before, but TV and his boat handled it with ease. What a sweet machine. 1 1/2 hours later we were at ranch, ready to fish. Vickie handled the ride out quite well. In fact she was having a great time just blasting out into the ocean in TV’s boat. When we got there and stopped the boat however, she started feeling ill. Her trip really went south from that point.

What a trooper though, she hardly uttered a peep. What a tough girl. We all felt really bad for her, poor thing. . She was obviously pretty miserable and all she could do is apologize for wrecking our trip. Of course, we all told her it wasn’t her fault.
The fishing wasn’t as good as the day before. The sea was pretty rough and the drift was too fast. I fought a 4 ft blue shark from about 400 ft and caught a HUGH 36+in. ling cod and TV got a really nice 53 in ‘but. I really got a kick out of watching TV and Keta wrestle that big ‘ol slimy ‘but down on the floor of TV’s boat. Vickie started feeling better on the way back, in fact she caught a little nap. By the time we got back to the dock, she was almost back to her old self, just REALLY tired.
Thanks a bunch to TV and Keta. They both worked really hard to get us into some halibut, but it wasn’t meant to be. Some days are like that. I had a great boat ride out farther out into the ocean than I had ever been before with some really great guys. I just wish my sweety could have enjoyed it more. However, we did walk away with some ling fillets, and halibut too, ‘cause TV was generous enough to share his catch.
Thanks again Taylor’s Viewpoint, I’d fish with you again anytime.
