Homemade bench rest?
So I am looking to do some shooting to prepare for the upcomming rifle elk season and I decided that I am going to build a bench rest that is much more sturdy than my folding card table I have used in the past.
The problem is, I can't seem to find any good plans on line. Has anyone out there built a rest themselves and would you be willing to share the plans you used? Even pictures of a good sturdy rest you might have might get me moving in the right direction.
The only stipulation, it has to fit in the back of a pick-up and be relatively easy to move short distances.
THANKS!

Re: Homemade bench rest?
All of the good benches I've used are heavy. Keeps the table from moving around when you're shooting. I only use benches at the range and don't bother with them anywhere else. If my rifle is zeroed on the bench, I then check that zero from shooting positions. My final zero is done while shooting with a rest or technique that I will most likely use in the field.

I agree this is also what I do, just go to the range 0 it in then head to the woods for some real life shooting situations

Re: Homemade bench rest?
eHunter bought one of those life-size deer targets with the marked vital zones. It was a great time just shooting at the animal from different field positions and seeing how accurate we really were. Suprisingly enough, vital zones on an animal are much larger than what most hunters use as targets or measures of accuracy. This can be done the cheap way by getting some large moving boxes and cutting out your rendition of a deer. Might not look totally lifelike, but its a good simulator.

Re: Homemade bench rest?
Make it three legged what ever you do and it will set solid any where you set it.
I built my own and it worked as good as any. I don't have any pictures never took any of it. Used 4x4 for legs 2x6 frame 1/2 plywood top.
