Default 6/20 Newport \'but Update from The Pilar

6/19 - Report is that they ran to the Ranch, bagged 3 nice 'buts and headed 35 miles north to the phantom tuna grounds. Met up with Marty who *reportedly* had bagged 6 tuna. Fished for the next several hours with no bites, no sights and bent a prop running over "some kind of large fish" - maybe a sunfish? Good thing John has spares along.

Ocean was had a little swell, but was somewhat rippley. Flattened out this afternoon to glass

*Disclaimer: No tuna was actually seen on board Marty's boat.

Fish on....

Thanks for the disclaimer. Guess that will have to be standard procedure from now on.

Pilar crossed the bar at Newport, heading for the Ranch at 6am this morning (6/20). He reports an ocean even nicer than yesterday. Tuna plans scratched for today. Update later.

I can't wait for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be aboard the "Bar Hopper" with Stoyjun Princess. They had a boat limit on 6/19. I guess Moby had an engine go south. Overheated...

I sure hope that the report from Martys' boat is correct!! It would be the
earliest tuna caught out of a small boat on the Central Oregon coast I've
ever heard of!! It would bode well for a good TUNA year (IMHO).

Hey Marty, are you out there??

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">He's right! It was the smoothest ocean I've seen all year so far.

It looks like the wind is forecasted to pick back up a little tomorrow. Hopefully, you'll be out and back before that materializes and have a beautiful day!

Received message that the Pilar is headed back in (11:30am) 3 fish and a humpback whale. Er, the fish are in the boat, they only saw the whale
