Default Depoe Bay Nooks

Just got off the phone with my buddy Mike T. He just had to call and brag that they limited the boat with 6 nooks. Ocean was beautiful and fishing good.

What sucks is my plans to go this weekend are sunk due to an outdrive that will not go up or down (on the boat silly) Looks like I'll be working on that tonight but I still have a shakedown cruise to do before I dip her in the salt. One week delay. Oh well. Good luck to all going out this weekend. Sounds like it is going to be good.

I plan on it Chris. If we get no nookies I know we can bang the coho.

Just a little nervous going out of Depoe Bay. Never have done it in my boat but I have watched carefully and observed Charter boats coming in and out (small boats too). Plus I have been out on Joan E charters from there twice. Interesting little port.

Good luck to you this weekend too!

C&E,

Boats in-coming have the right-of-way. Blow your horn when coming in, listen for same when going out.

See this http://www.boatoregon.com/Library/CoastalGuide.pdf slide #30 for bar crossing info.

Horn protocol from this publication is "All vessels are required to sound one prolonged (four to six seconds) blast when departing or entering Depoe Bay. Local protocol gives the right-of-way to any inbound vessel."

If it were me, I would sound the horn when approaching, then again when nearing the slot just to make sure you are heard.

Thanks Orca. I also understand channel 80 I believe is another way of announcing your intent. I will be following my friend in his boat our of the slot. So I will not be totally unguided. All advice is appreciated.

Bernie
