Default COHO this weekend

How far do you think the silvers will be out of Newport this weekend? Has there been many incidental fish caught by chinook fisherman? How has chinook fishing been? What have they been averaging? I am excited to go and was just wondering. I haven't talked to anyone that has been out except for reading what you guys write. Thanks for the reports. Jesse

I landed 1 coho and had another on out of Depoe Bay two weeks ago. We straight out at the 30 fathoms. Lots of bait in the water...probably lots of Coho (we were fishing deep for nookies but got none

I'll get you a report from Depoe Bay tomorrow when I get home. I've been in Longview for 4 days.

I'll talk to both commercials and charters and find out what's happening. There were lot's of coho last I heard but that isn't current. They were small and still will be and I'm guessing around 5 to 5&1/2 pounds for the opener.

Just talked to a buddy of mine that I work with ... he's been fishing
(commercially) for chinook for the past couple of days. The ocean was
pretty nice, but the current was *ripping*!! He only caught 2 chinook
on Monday and 4 on Tuesday. He was telling me that there are quite a
few silvers out at the 45-50 fathom line off Cape Foulweather (between Depoe
Bay and Newport). Told me they were "fat and happy" with a couple that he hooked
and released in the 7-9 pound range!! 'Course, he is thinking in dressed weight
terms, so add a couple of pounds to that for sport weight!! BIG silvers for this
early in the year!!

Good luck to all of you that start chasing them thar Silvers this weekend!!

If you look at Garibaldi Bait and Tackle's website, at the bottom of the page, they have a couple of guides that post reports on their site. Apparently last week a couple of them went out and limited on chinook 2 days straight.

Just FYI.

Thanks for the report guys. It sounds like they are catching chinook about 7 miles off of the light house that is on the north end of Newport. I am hearing different reports for the size of the cohos and how far they are out. Hopefully they will be in as close. Does 7 miles out of Newport = 40 fathoms make sense? Hopefully it isn't too rough to go. What have you heard about the ocean predictions?

New 3:30pm forecast is out but I'm really confused. Look at Saturday's forecast. 3ft./7ft. subsiding to 4ft. Then the evening forecast is 3/7 again. Anybody want to tell me how this is going to happen? I could understand if it was going to really blow Friday night and create an early 3/7 on Saturday and subside and come back that evening but Friday night is a 2/4 with winds dying to 10kts. Huh?????

-----------------------
Fri--
W wind 10 kt...becoming NW 15 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 2 ft. W swell 3 ft. Scattered showers.
Fri Night--
NW wind 15 kt...easing to 10 kt after midnight. Wind waves 2 ft. W swell 4 ft. Scattered showers.
Sat--
NW wind 10 kt...rising to 15 kt in the afternoon. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 7 ft...subsiding to 4 ft. Scattered showers.
Sat Evening--
NW wind 15 kt. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 7 ft. Chance of showers.
Sun--
NW wind 20 kt. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 7 ft.

Ok, here is my schedule: Friday fishing out of Garabaldi for some flatties, trailer up and head to Depoe, spend the night then hit the Coho first thing, and maybe just maybe keep heading west....

I might run with you on Saturday depending on how the forecast looks. If it doesn't look tuna friendly then I'll just go down to Newport and try to get a Hali. We'll see if the forecast changes tonight or tomorrow.
