HUGE deer in bend!!
First off I don't have pics (sorry).
A couple weeks ago me and the wife went on a get away for 3 day's to bend. We had a great time and boy has that place changed since i poured concrete there 12 yrs ago. Anyways we took are Mtn. Bikes and went on a few rides and it was really nice.
So I won't go into to detail where I saw these deer becuase they are very close to public land an they located in town, I don't want to ruin anybody's spot. But we were driving to a spot to ride are Mtn. Bikes. and then all of a sudden I see these two big bucks bedded down next to a building. I then said " Oh crap" and slammed on the Brakes. My wife was going what the heck are you doing.
So we flipped the truck around and we drove up to this building, and there bedded down is to very big bucks. One was a 4 point about 33 wide and and the other was only a 3 point but he the most impressive. He had very deep forks and he was the tallest buck I have ever seen including pics, they both were i full velvet still. My wife was very impressed also and she likes Elk alot more.
And the bad part about it was she left the battery for her camera charging in the hotel, so we drove back as fast as we could to go get the battery and you guess it they were gone when we got back. Yes I did attempt to locate them agian by driving around but we were unable to find them an we had a mtn. bike trailer we had to go ride. All I have to say is WOW,both of those deer are in the top 5 bucks I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for reading my story. Those who live in or around Bend are VERY lucky!!!

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
CW,
Please, what self respecting deer would be caught in a snooty town like Bend....
Check out the eyeguards on the bigger boy. At least he wasn't eating my roses like normal. You should have heard him crack that little forkie when he tried to get in on the bitterbrush feast. Rattlin' antlers in my backyard. I missed the really big one that was walking through chewing on my wildflowers a couple of days earlier. He made this guy look like a punk.
These are from last year. Sorry for the poor picture quality on the first one.
All taken within the city limits about a 15 minute walk from downtown. There's one real monster that I've seen on the back side of Awbery Butte that has to go 34"-35". It's the biggest deer I've ever seen. He runs solo, but I've seen a bachelor herd of about 10 bucks that probably averaged about 29". They used to hang out on the old Coates property (Deschutes Ready Mix) on the west side of town, but they've stopped running cattle on the property so they are a bit more spread out than they used to be. Not a scrap of public land nearby other than Shevlin Park which is closed to hunting.
Also saw a herd of elk grazing their way through North Rim (lots start at about $500K) on the north side of Awbery Butte this past winter. I've lived here since 1993 and I've never seen elk on the butte. I spoke with some folks that have lived here all their lives and they can't remember it either.
Maybe I should have put in for the Upper Deschutes unit again after all...

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
My folks live DRW and get a few "nice" deer around each summer. It's always nice to arrive at their house a few days before deer season and get to see what I'll be looking for once I hit the huntin grounds!

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
Man I spent some time in Crooked River Ranch area last year and
there were just deer EVERYWHERE!!
HUGE bucks and the deer were half way tame!!
Theres no hunting aloud anywhere in the area, so I guess the deer get used to humans.
But man every where you looked there were deer...

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
Aubrey Butte has the biggest bucks I see each year in Bend, Deschutes River Woods had four nice bucks that lived under the house on the tall block till two weeks ago when one was wounded and then another shot by the same neighbor, he got caught and cited for trespass getting the deer out of another guys yard. The best local Elk in the winter are across from Summit H.S. over in Drew Bledsoe's new front yard at the Tethrow golf and housing ( Mansion ) area.

Yesterday evening I was driving my daughter to her class when I noticed a very large buck right under the railroad bridge crossing over Hwy 97 just north of DRW.He was lying between the concrete barrier and the bridge support. His head was drooping and he looked like he wasn't feeling too good.I turned around and went back and by that time a guy was walking down the embankment with his bow and said he finished the buck off.He jumped the deer up and noticed he had an arrow sticking out of his back.He mercifully put him out of his misery. When I looked at the deer where the arrow was sticking out there were maggots crawling all over the wound. This is only about half mile from where those deer used to lay under that house.I wonder if it is the same one that the "hunter" shot in his yard and wounded before he shot and killed the other one?It was pretty damn sad to see it had suffered like that.Especially when in my opinion the guy was a slob for shooting the neighborhood deer in the first place, wounding one and killing another.I think this kind of behavior gives us all a bad name.Sorry to hijack the thread but this really pi$$ed me off.

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
I saw a couple of bucks right before bow season on the corner of newport and Mt. washington that sound exactly like what you described. A 30"+ 4pt and a 3pt that was not near as impressive. I took some pics on my cell phone but they didn't turn out.

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
I hope someone turned them in...it's illegal to hunt in that area. My dad called and asked. He did have good intentions until he found out.

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
they should trap a few of these monsters and release them into other areas of the state where they can spread their awesome genetics into huntable populations.

Re: HUGE deer in bend!!
My brother just moved to Colorado Springs from DRW and there were always deer in that neighborhood. Well, the adjacent neighborhood, cause his dogs kept the deer away from his place.
