Bad trend
I'm afraid we might be in for another less than optimal halibut opener. 15kts 3and5 on fri. and 15kts. 4and7 on sat. This sucks!

Re: Bad trend
It looks like I can only go Saturday as well. I'm waiting to see if my son can get any time off so I've hesitated offering open seats. Friday sure looks like a better day though. We'll have to bat clean up Saturday eh Rod?

Re: Bad trend
Hey Rod, i'm a Saturday only too. On the 5/8 weekend, Saturday was predicted to be the best day of the three, and turned out to be the worst. Maybe history will repeat itself, sort of. Ok, I'm crossing my fingers. I hope it works . HJ

Re: Bad trend
Yeah, it sure looks like it so far. I'll be out there Sunday too so I hope if we get shutdown for Saturday we can at least get out for something on Sunday.
When are you guys heading down?

Re: Bad trend
Rod/Mike, we're heading down to Nehalem Friday eve and hopefully going out of T-bay Saturday (are you guys headed south?). If it's too rough for hali we will probably fish salmon (silver opener). You guys are welcome to crash at our place if you don't want to pull the boats down at 3:00 in the morning . HJ

Re: Bad trend
I'm still on hold waiting to see my sons schedule. Thanks for the offer though Casey, I just may take you up on it. If it is bumpy Garibaldi is a lot closer than the ranch and we did well there last yr also salmon fishing was pretty good 2 weeks ago.

Re: Bad trend
Don't know about tomorrow or Thursday, but it was flat today. Went out at 11 am and there was no bar, little to no swell and no wind. Caught a slew of 23-1/2" ling cod (one blue one, no keepers) on the nearshore reef. Tried turkey for crab bait, only two keeper hardshells. Got a couple dozen herring at the green can. What a nice day here. Going to try the rock pile tomorrow unless the weather turns.

Re: Bad trend
Looks like it's gonna be Garibaldi on Saturday for me. The forecast has improved a little bit, 3'ww's and 7'seas for Saturday. Probably will make a run out for FB and return early for some salmonoids. HJ I'll give you a call on 78. Rod are you heading to Newport or Garibaldi?

Re: Bad trend
I think I'm going to run down to Newport. The forecast seems a little shaky and I don't want to miss a shot at bullets if it's calm enough. Based on the 3:30 forecast I can't hardly believe it's going to be a 3/7 on Saturday after being 2/4 on Friday with only 10kt. winds. And then they say it's supposed to go to 4 ft. swells and up again to 7 that evening. Something is screwy here. I'm gonna go to Newport and see what happens. Good luck in Garibaldi and if you change your mind give me a shout on 78 down there.

Re: Bad trend
I'm with you Rod, something is screwy with the forcast. I'm taking the gamble and heading to Depoe Friday night, sleep on the boat and hit the Coho ground at first light. If Mother Ocean is calm, maybe I will just keep heading west.....
