Default reels

I'm stuck in a conference in Missouri, but have a chance to bid on a ShakespeareTidewater reel...big aluminum thing, gold in color and looks tunaworthy. Cabela's sells them for 99. Are they any good anyone?
Fortunately, I'm flying out of Kansas City Sunday or Monday and will stop at the Cabela's store (for sospenders), so might have a chance to get one if my bid loses (and the reel seems popular).
Is one of the big Penns better?
Thanks

I'm a Penn reels fan Bill. All of my heavy salt reels are Penn.

So, I guess there is your answer.

Just an opinion mind you.

Never seen it before, Bill. Like Fishplay, I'm kinda stuck on Penn too.

Bill,
I have to agree with the rest. The Black Rocket uses PENN 113s. Year after year after year they preform. I have them rebuilt once a year and there're good to go.

I'm a Penn and Okuma fan Bill, although I have heard some decent reports on the Tidewaters.

Go with Penn Bill besides they are made in America.

The drag system on that reel is not the best. Does not compare to a penn, and will not hold up as well in the salt. Just my 2-cents.

I just purchased a rod and Shakespear "salt water" reel for a grand total of $79.95 for a backup. That might give you an idea of the value (quality) of the reel.
