I had thought of doing the epoxy to the hull thingy but this is a wood hull and the reception is poor, also the speed wheel needs to be in the water flow. Epoxy thru glass hulls works pretty well if there are no bubbles in the mix.

Skein, You no laffa my rooster tail, it be cool!

You don't need the speed "thingy" if you've got a GPS. The water temp "thingy" though will need to be in the water.

Yeah, I didn't know if the epoxy thing would work thru wood? That's a tough one.

Hmmmmmm.......

You have the wrong ducer ED. Buy yourself the brass through hull ducer. I know you don't want to drill holes in the bottom of your boat but with the motor mounted where it is I doubt you will find clean water at the transom.

Find a flat spot ahead of the eangine well and as far away from any strakes as possible.

Default Mounting a fish/depth finder

O.K. Guys and Gals, I need some good sugestions on how and where to mount a fish finder on my dory. It has the motor mounted in a well.

My first attempt was to try the finder on a bracket inside the well. That didn't work very well but the rooster tail was something of a sight, had the jet skiers drooling. It started inside of the motor well and actually arched over the transom. Back to the drawing board.

The second try was a mounting a bracket onto the kicker bracket. It was a rod inside of a tube sort of affair and both the rod and the tube wound-up bent so that the rod with the transducer could not be pulled up. There was just too much pressure on the whole thing. Who would have thought 1/2 in. stainless rod would bend that easily.

Mounting to the transom at the water line is the traditional way but two problems arise. One, the boat sits on a bunk trailer right where it needs to be mounted and two, if it is mounted at the transom it is not deep enough to avoid motor noise because it is behind the motor, i.e., prop. It has to be several inches below the bottom to get smooth water for good readings.

So, friends, engineers, anybody, got and idears?

Have you thought about epoxying it to the inside of the hull?

Just a thought.

No ideas, Ed, but I sure would liked to have seen that rooster tail.

I gotta quit laughing out loud at my computer - people look at me funny....
