Ultimate Sportsmans Show?
My son and I had a chance to make our way out to Canby to check it out. It opened at 10am and we were there around 10:30am. The first thing that I noticed was the traffic and parking. Actually it was a lack of both. We pulled up and parked within 100 feet of the entry gate. Like that ever happens at a sportsman's show
Once inside it was a sportsman's show unlike I had ever seen. I'm talking no pushy crowds, no high pressure salesman and everything was spread out so that you could actually look and enjoy the displays. We watched the cowboy shooting, dock dogs, elk calling and the 3-d shoot, My son panned for gold and hit the trout pond. We spoke with and received some shooting tips and safety lessons from a certified shooting instructor and we got the opportunity to talk with Tim Brown from Natural Instincts Taxidermy. He was supposed to be giving a seminar on Mule Deer but since the crowds were so light it got canceled. He did however still take the time to go over his seminar information with me one on one. He gave me some great tips for field judging muleys and even some general hunting tips that have worked for him. I checked out his trophy photo book and he has taken some truly remarkable animals. BTW way his taxi work that was on display at his booth was very remarkable indeed.
I'm not sure why there were not more people at the show perhaps it was just a general lack of advertisement for it or maybe the fact that we are mid-way through the archery season. Since this was only the first year I'm sure it will get more popular. I know if they have it again, my son and I will be back.
