Crabbait's boat name?
Say it isn't so ... 'Sculpin'?
Tell us the story, Crabbait. Enquiring minds want to know. We give Mr. Fisherman no end of grief for 'Sea Lion', barking at him everywhere he goes ... but 'Sculpin'? What, we throw pogies at your boat when we sturgeon fish the Desdemona shoal?
There's been a couple of Submarines with that name, so it can't be all bad.

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Avast, sea currs, heave to and learn! The Sculpin is not the biggest fish in the sea, and neither is my boat. Sculpin are not inherently sparkling and pretty like some finned critters, and neither is my boat.
Instead, Sculpin are small, tenacious, voracious little predators. They are fearless and tougher pound for ounce than the majority of glamour fish. They tend to hunt in packs, carry off more than their own weight in Amerman's eggs, and never give up.
They are just like an Edwing boat: Small, not very pretty and tough as they come. Ever hear of an endangered Sculpin? I gotta admire the little beasties!
All hail the Mighty Sculpin!

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Straight from Webster's...
Main Entry: scul·pin
Pronunciation: 'sk&l-p&n
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural sculpins also sculpin
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1672
1 : any of a family (Cottidae) of spiny large-headed broad-mouthed often scaleless bony fishes
2 : a scorpion fish (Scorpaena guttata) of the southern California coast caught for food and sport
So your either a "scaleless bony fish" (ya right), or something that is "caught for sport" by the crazy liberals in CA. I'm having a tough time deciding which you are...

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
I don't know Crabbait, my definition of a sculpin is a tiny, nasty, annoying, bait steeling thief. I don't think you want that association!

You could name her..."Hey it's my boat, and if I want to call her Sculpin, I will"

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Hey! Ok, that may be fairly accurate but I am at times scaly if I don't use my Pond's.
Besides, I couldn't name her "crabbait". I would be fending off "customers" all the time!

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
You guys that question this simply haven't been to Ed Wing's shop. It looks like a place where sculpins would be born and nurtured.
I think it's a great and fitting name, Crabbait, but I'm gonna name mine something else.

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Skein & Crabbait,
What are your delivery dates? Seems like August if I remember from the original post. Any pics of work in progress? Don't worry fellas, the last month or so before your boat is done will only seem like 10 years. :depressed:

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
I'm sure you guys could find lots of helpers if you asked!
Of course, that's only if the ocean is all stirred up and we can't get out for TUNA!
I can see the posts now:
"Anybody interested in helping me install the GPS this weekend?
"Hello, anybody out there?"
"Anyone?"

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Ed says middle of July. The hull is there now, upsidedown, being welded.
Mel - I don't know what makes you think it will take long to outfit her and do the shakedown. All we have to cut holes for and install are the:
Washdown system
Downriggers
Radios
GPS
Compass
Fishfinder
Stereo and speakers
Fuel computer
Added internal/cockpit lights
Seems like a good weekend project to me........

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
Crabbait- you can live without the stereo and speakers until after TUNA season - use your walkman!
Should only take 25 days that way!

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
No- the cryin' will be if that new boat doesn't catch fish! If it does catch fish then it won't matter what it's called! (at least that's my opinion).

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
I've been to Edwing's boat building facilities and seen his boats. Sculpin is a great name for one of his 23 footers. If it was a 30 footer, you'd want to call it "Warthog". If it was a 40' "Rhino" would be a fitting name. These boats are made top and bottom out of 1/4 inch aluminum, tough as nails and butt ugly. You crash into one of these babies, and you lose.

Re: Crabbait's boat name?
The boat naming decission was easy for me. The name came with the boat. The owners said it was a fish killer so the name Rotsa Ruck stays. Corny as hell or not.
