Re: TV Tuna
I may have to watch.
I went out of San Diego last year on my first ever tuna trip with some friends. Day & a half 72 miles out on a 65 ft charter boat. Lots of fun and 50 fish for the boat. I came back with 3 Albacores in the 10# range.
Hope to get some here if they come close.

Re: TV Tuna
It was right at the end of the newscast and lasted about 10 seconds. It may have been shortened because they spent a lot of time covering Brinkley and Gregory Peck's deaths. Rhonda said her husband talked her into going on a five day, long - ranger out of San Diego. Showed a picture of her proudly holding one Albie of about 20 pounds.

Re: TV Tuna
Hey Gang!!!!
Rhonda's hubby, Dennis here!! That was a great pic of Rhonda. We has a great time on that trip. I'll post some pics when we get 'em back. She kicked some butt on that trip...the deckhands were really impressed at how she could handle a fish!!!That was a 23#er in the pic.
We were on a 5 day trip aboard the Excel. It was more of an adventure than a trip. Great food, super service, and we got three full days of fishing time. They have a great website (that I probably look at too much!). It's www.excelsportfishing.com
They considered the trip more of an "exploratory" albacore trip plus a stop a San Benitos Island to hit the Yellowtail. Combined, Rhonda and I bagged 15 albacore and 12 Yellowtail. That's a little on the slow side for them but we still has an awesome time. Still, they're coming here soon!
We're working a few bugs out of our ride, Liquid Asset (a 23' Trophy), but are now "primed" for the season!!!!! We'd love to follow you guys out on one of your trips while we're still learning the ropes.
See ya,
D

Re: TV Tuna
I'm not sure I'd consider a boat a "liquid asset" ( ) but none less, welcome to the Dogs.

Re: TV Tuna
Hey Dennis..I see you were on one of the cheapie long range boats in San Diego huh?? Good job on the albies and yellows..Pretty good for a quote exploratory trip..Was there alot of bait fish taken after the jig stops?? How about the yellows at Benitos.. Did they put on a good showing for you guys....Bet the food was as good as the fishing too..Thx again for sharing....

Re: TV Tuna
Hey Booja,
We basically had 2 days on albacore and one at Benitos for Yellows. We'd typically get 1-2 rods to go off on the troll. I can remember one where we had three going on the slide. The average bait stop was probably 12 albacore. The stop where we took Rhonda's pic was the largest which was 35...that was really sweet, the place was going nuts! For the trip the boat also had 30 bluefin.
I really enjoyed fishing for Yellows. I grew up in So. Cal. so it was kind of like old times. Rhonda and I got all of our Yellows on flylined sardines. I'd have to say I had more fun with the Yellows than the Albacore....the Yellows were hitting so much faster.
Don't even get me going about the food. Justin Fleck is a part time chef and part time deckhand. All I can say is that I probably put on 5 pounds in the 5 days!. I'm talking biscuits and gravy, deli sandwich buffet, prime rib, baby back ribs, french toast....GOOD EATS!! On top of that they always have a snack tray out of six different candy bars, ten different cookies/crackers and cut up melon!!! Each day at 4pm they have appetizers and then dinner is around 8pm.
Okay, I'm talking more about the food than the fishing...I need help!!!

Re: TV Tuna
There's nothing "sport" about that sportfisher, that's a SERIOUS  boat! How long is that thing? Well over a hundred. I wonder how many TUNA she holds?

Re: TV Tuna
Man o Man Dennis....Sounds like the albies came to the boat real well for you guys and hats off to you for taking time for a great pic of Rhonda during a 35 fish stop. Fish must have been crashing on the corner pretty good...and getting em on the slide,,boy what a long slide with that 124 ft aircraft carrier huh?? Were the bluefin mixed in with the Albies and just had to get lucky to get one?? Hopefully the skippers down there are looking at another great year..Are they talking a little El Nino with all the exotics or just a regular longfin season?? Can't wait..hope to see you guys on the big pond too......
