Default New here

Hi all,

Am new here and just thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. I just heard about this site last evening.

My name is Nancy. I live in Depoe Bay, very near the harbor, and am an avid sport fisherwoman. In years past I've fished with my 20' Sea Ray, but since the engine is history, I've recently upgraded to a 30' Sport Craft that will be moored here in the Depoe Bay harbor soon as it arrives from California.

I'll look forward to talking with several of ya'll from time to time here, and perhaps fishing with some of you who run through Depoe Bay.

Skipper - I am working this weekend, so fishing is kind of out for me then. The following weekend may be when my boat arrives up here. (Coming via piggy-back on a truck). Still working out the shipping details on that one.

Mel - Do I TUNA? Do I TUNA? Is the ocean salty? Is the Depoe Bay harbor a royal PITA to get out of when there is much swell out there?  Why of course I tuna!!! Been starting to get my gear ready and watching the SST's. Hoping we get to see a nice early tuna season this year. I plan on making as many tuna trips as I can muster this year.

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Mark as of yet, (that I know of)...but have seen his boat in the harbor lots. I occasionally wander down by the harbor on my daily walks with my dog.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Am looking forward to getting out there on the water with ya, or at least talking about our fishing adventures.

Have only been out once this year so far, first halibut day. Hit the Chicken Ranch on one of the local charter boats. The Chicken Ranch fully lived up to its name that day. I caught about 10 halibut, with only one that was legal size.

Hey Seajypzee,

Is this a great website or what? My husband and I are new to this ocean going stuff but I'm hooked already and we're learning a ton. Figure it's a compliment when my hubby calls me his salty sea wench. Tuna fishing sounds great, haven't tried it yet but want to. Went on my first halibut charter early May - caught a nice one and can't wait to go again.

T-Bone - It sure sounds like you have the fever alright. There's no real cure for it except for the splash of sea spray in the face, and salt water over the bow of the boat.

Corrirod - Do you stay in Newport or Depoe Bay?

Keta - Thanks

heh, I just realized I have met "DepoeBayDan" in the past. If you happen to catch this thread, I fished a lot with Billy year before last, on my 20' Sea Ray. Hehe, I've probably met or talked with a few others of ya'll as well, without realizing it.

AndyCoho - That shouldn't be THAT hard to manage. Just gotta choose days that the ocean isn't too bad.

Pilar - Actually I still have the Sea Ray. Am looking at probably posting it on EBAY. Figure that maybe someone has an engine looking for a boat fairly inexpensively. 1977 20' Sea Ray with a trailer. Mercruiser 228 outdrive. Has a 350 engine in it that is wipped out. (Salt water cooled, corroded out the block).

I am also putting in a VHF base set, I think with the my location and altitude I should be able reach Tuna town, and keep track or help all the friends if they need anything. (ice...beer...beer....a call to the spouse that they won't be home)

Pilar's Mate - hmmmm.

Aqua-holic - Thank you. Hopefully my RN skills won't be needed much out on the water....I've never had a successful save of a fish on the back deck yet. They ALL die for some reason.

Hoggemin - I anticipate I will be looking for crew at times this summer. Those twin 350 inboards eat up the fuel on that new boat, no doubt.

Crabbait - Thank you. My dog is an American Eskimo. Not sure how she'll do out on the boat. Will be finding out I guess. hehehe. I may take her out one time just to see how she does.

DiamondBack -

WP -

Wak'm&Stak'm - You in the Agate Beach/Beverely Beach area then, huh?

I'm already feeling right at home here. Thanks to all of you for the very warm welcome. I've been semi-active on the Bay Area Tuna Club down in California, and someone from there posted the link to here. Since this is so much closer to home, I have no doubt I'll be much more of an active participant here.

Tight lines and red decks to ya'll.

Nancy,

Hi. My name is Mark and I have a problem. I'm addicted to TUNA ...

Welcome aboard! Stop on by any weekend (yeh, I'm one of them bleeding
weekenders!). Pacific Mistress is that funny looking catamaran boat on the
end of Dock 3 (West end). I'm not there a lot ... I like to spend as much time
out on the water as I can ... but if you can catch me at the boat, maybe we can
swap a few lies??

Hi Mark,

Yep, I've seen your boat out there lots. I remember seeing it the first time 2 years ago when ya brought it down. It's a nice looking fishing machine, that's for certain.

I'll keep an eye out for ya when I'm walking the dog down there.

Aqua - A lot depends on the size of hook, and where it goes in, etc...and if it's barbed. Sometimes you have to just run it through the rest of the way and cut the eye off of it.

Hello again, Nancy. I saw your "boat transport" thread before this one. Funny, we used to exchange comments on the BATC site... I too saw your post there the other day and wondered why you hadn't been here before? Glad someone directed you "back home." I was herring fishing with Marty today; he remembers you well. See you around, Mark Mc

p.s. The rest of you should realize that this lady is a pathological tunaholic to the point that she chases tuna by herself...no problem!

How is Marty doing? Does he come here also? Please tell him I say hi.

Nancy.....it's a good thing your work stays off the boat. However.......my old fishing buddy a few years back swatted his #5 Tee-spoon which came around and hooked him in the bottom of the nose. Noone would give him a hand fearing they may be held liable. As a result....he pulled out...went to emergency. They made him wait 1 1/2 hrs in the waiting room with the #5 hanging from his nose. Just thinking you might help avoid the embarassment...

Nancy--Welcome. I look forward to your post/reports. Congrats on the new boat, looks like a carkin' machine to me.
