Re: Excellent Weekend Forecast!
MY - Where do you suggest for a shad expedition? A hot bite from any fish would be nice. I want to take some kids who get bored quickly and get them hooked on fishing.

What rivers support runs of shad?? Besides the Columbia system that is.

Re: Excellent Weekend Forecast!
Well, if you're heading out of Corvallis...I'm not sure. Heading South, the Umpqua usually has sensational runs...Sawyer's Rapids is said to be a good place. Coos River is good, not real sure where though..TC might add something. The Coquille, just head upstream from the Coquille ramps till you see the boats....1/2 mile?
I would think most coastal rivers have runs, just not aware of them.

Re: Excellent Weekend Forecast!
Best advice is to head down to sawyers rapids on the umpqua. There are also a lot of fish caught at yellow creek too from the bankies. You need some sort of floating device to get out in the hole at Sawyers but it's fast and furious action. Last weekend we filled a cooler in a couple of hours and lost just about as many. The coos system has quite a few also. We went up after work with 4 of us and landed 30 from the bank last week. Pretty much just put in at any of the launches on the river up from the forks and start trolling. Make sure you're fishing on the bottom there though if you want to get into a lot of fish.

Re: Excellent Weekend Forecast!
Thank you guys. I appreciate the info - I am located in the Portland area and the spots you mention are a little out of range for this adventure.

Re: Excellent Weekend Forecast!
Sorry edsr, I could only share what I know, which is southcoast stuff... ...I sorta thought there would be more posts from up your way, especially since the CR shad fishery is so popular. If you haven't already, you might post on the main fishing board, or do a search.
Good Luck!
