Default Rifle Season Elk Approach

So I've recently decided to do the Cascade bull elk rifle hunt in October. My question is will this approach be somewhat adequate even though there is only about a month till the hunt. I was going to place a trail cam with a salt lick in two different areas that i saw lots of tracks during my deer bow season, and check the cam in 2 weeks to see what comes around. I was also thinking of hanging a tree stand or a ground blind. Anything else i should do? Maybe lay down some elk urine around the area?

Pick out a rock or stump and put your name on it. Try and find one in an area of natural funnel areas between drainages that elk may cross when getting pushed around by the masses of people.

it takes years to train elk and deer to come to salt blocks. but if you place blocks in the same place every year on a travel path a few hundred yards from a remote water source. the animals will find it. then over time it will become a regular stop on their weekly routine. sitting and waiting on these blocks is the most boring form of hunting you can imagine. but can be very productive. i have seen deer bear turkey elk and lots of other little creatures near old salt block locations. buy a block every year, and set it in the same place every year and in a few years you will start seeing game. IF YOU PICK THE RIGHT PLACE TO START WITH.

Look for a place that is the ugliest piece of land you can find that no one who isn't serious about getting an elk will go into. If the access is easy, you'll have to get real lucky to harvest an animal. Once you find the perfect spot, keep going back until you connect, don't give up. A truly good spot will produce every year so put plenty of effort into this. Also, after the rut, the big bulls will not be with the herds but off by themselves or a small group of all bulls. Look for an area with very little sign as the bulls don't want competition for food. When you're actually hunting, don't move around a whole lot spreading your scent throughout the area. Sit, watch and listen. This perfect spot probably won't have any elk in it right now but they might be within a couple of miles, maybe farther. It will also be at a lower elevation than where the elk are hanging now.
