Default Does anyone want to go catch a Tuna?

This coming Saturday I am hoping for the weather to allow an expedition to the fishing grounds.

We have the temperature break, right where it needs to be. Fish are getting caught down in the land of fruits and nuts.

How early do they get here? They are here by early July for sure. That is only 3 weeks away. Are they here now?

Join me in Depoe Bay on Saturday and lets go find out. There is a bottom fishing derby sponsored by DepoeBayDan that day for a plan 'B' if we get blown off of the epic voyage.

Popeye will be fishing out of Newport on the Flagship, Julie Rose III. Mel, You running out of Astoria?

Ladies and gents, let's go find them and grind them.

I was thinking of taking Saturday off for the bottomfishing...if the forcast was favorable. This maybe even a better posibility. I am game if the possibilities are realistic for getting out!

I would love to go chase some tuna with you. I dont think I will be available this weekend but with popeyes forecast it doesnt look like you we be getting far offshore :depressed:

I got a fresh batch of plugs that need to get wet. Here is a picture of a few of the 20 plugs I put the finish on Friday. Finally got them looking pretty good with my improved paint skills. I included a couple of unfinished ones in the photo because I took it for a guy in New Jersey trying to figure out how make a tuna plug.

Those plugs just keep getting prettier and prettier! Good job!

As for chasing Tuna on Saturday, count me in if the forcast changes.

John- You're killin' me. I told Jen I was going to stay off the board cause of all this TUNA talk! I lied!

Miss B isn't heading to Warrenton until the week of the 21st. Going to be a mostly non-fishing Mel and Toni river vacation trip down but of course the summer Chinook season will be open.
I've got a wedding the next weekend (Salmon opener up North is the 29th, going to miss it ). Sooo.... No fishing in the Salt until 4th of July weekend for this skipper and boat. Lining up those plans now though. Tuna gears coming out real soon.

This comming Sat Kurt and I will be diving Cape Lookout on a charter with Youngs Scuba. George Young has this area dialed and am looking forward to it. Crab aplenty, rock scallops and speared fish. Keep me in mind for crew on the next wolf pack outing and I am looking forward to the next tuna-holics meeting. I will report on this board about the dive and plan on kyping GPS numbers for dive reproduction.

Im just curious, what is the 'normal' distance one has to go out?? how long does it take?? I have never been out in the ocean much less tuna fishing but it being so close to me and sounds like a neat fishery has me interested. thanks

I'm game if any one has a open seat I haven't been able to get the 170lb cable yet Pilar but will try Mariners supply on Swan Island. I did get the heavy mono and 10 Zukers, swivels, hooks but they were out of the cable leader materal.

Of course everyone wants to! Perhaps the questions are "Are you ready to go?", "Is your gear 'Tuna ready'?" and the response is "Where and when, Captain?"

Yes, but....

I am going to see a man about a boat that morning. Maybe then I'll be able to keep up with some of the rest of ya'll. The drift boat just isn't able to troll fast enough for tuna.

I am definitely in. I fish for albacore every year out of Port San Luis (20 mi. S of Morro Bay), but have yet to fish them up here. My pa's boat is here until the 2nd week of July, so hopefully they'll get here by then! I think my Gregor is a little too small to chase albacore
So keep me on the tuna list!
later,
steve
