Early Tuna Sighting
Well my old man was tooling around at the docks this last week and was talking to the local commercials coming in. Seems that the tuna are 200 miles out but one boat saw fish jumping sparadically at 50 miles out! One of the large trollers had the report of the 200 mile range for the concentration of fish but it's the first official sighting of them so far this year off of Oregon that I know. One month and counting.

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Don't worry dave, you're high on the list for people to join. I didn't head up north, my two friends that were going both bailed on me thurs. night :depressed: so I caught shad instead. I was bummed. Oh well, at least I didn't have to drive up there I guess.

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Arghhhhh...... I just got out of the doghouse for helping Rich with the halibut and now tuna is supposed to show this early???? I spoke to a friend in SC and he is also chomping at the bit. He says the fish that Mojo caught were early fish and the main school is not there yet. He is waiting on the 601 to go off.
I'm lucky that the honey dew list is short and not mowing the back fourty and make jars of rocky mtn. oysters like Keta. Just prune the roses, trim bushes, plant a vegetable garden and mow the front lawn.

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Sensei-San...Just bring the wasabi and soy sauce..report of a fair amount of fish about 30 mi off Monterey......36.23/122.30 are the approx numbers..private boats were averaging 5 to 10 per boat but the seas were quite sloppy..water temp in the area is 58-59 degrees..peanut grade on the size which is a good early season sign........

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
I guess my mad halibut thoughts can be eased with the thought of the silver bullets pulling on my line on the 21st. It's shaping up to be an awsome year and we haven't even caught one yet!!

What we have here is a failure to cooperate.

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Just let the dog outdoors a few minutes ago and the wind is starting to blow already. Looks like it could be nasty out there by morning if it keeps going like it is now.

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Just got a new date on the boat delivery. Not good news, it looks like the middle of July. That is probably why the wind and waves are sticking around......waiting for the launch of the Sculpin!
Can't afford to burn vacation days until the boat is afloat so I will miss the halibut season.
With you guys in spirit!

Re: Early Tuna Sighting
Crabbait! I think the weather is waiting for your boat to be delivered. Yeah, that's it. Hmmm... maybe we need to get on Ed Wing about that, eh?
