The Columbia

We have a new boat, and my wife and I have been kicking around launchin the boat in the lower Columbia, somewhere between Astoria and St. Helens, then making a trip up river to maybe the Dalles. Something like taking our time over several days or so and camping along the way. So, are there areas that you can moor the boat and then camp on a beach anywhere along the Columbia? I have heard something about boatels, but don't know if that is true. Just looking for info.

You can tie up in St. Helens for (I think) up to 72 hours for free. The public dock right in front of the court house.
