In Malhuer National Forest, I primarily hunt one burnt ridgeline for deer.
Every year during the beginning of the season,we swear the numbers are down. Get a nice turn in the weather and its like someone turned on a switch and deer are everywhere.
Me and my cousin once sat and watched two fawns, 20 yrds off the road feeding carefree in the manzanita. A large 4pt was 10 yards from us, bedded in the same brush. If he hadn't stood up,we'd have now ideal of his prescence.
My point is an area often hold more animals then you might see, as a result, I've learnt not to panic, especially in the John Day area.
