Think shot placement will all calibers and you'll be fine. 30.06 is more than enough gun for elk.

Yeah that too!

If it's less than 300.00 It's probably not a bad deal. If it's more than that I would opt for a Weatherby or a Model 700. Joes had the Weatherby's for 299.00 two weeks ago.

If you are looking at a Weatherby, PM me, know of a 30-06, 5 rounds fired, comes with quick release swing swivels, scope base and rings. for a good price.

There's a good lookin' Springfield over in the classifieds, heck if I lived over there I'd buy it for the action alone at that price. Nicely sporterized with a scope.

Western Field is an old Montgomery Wards/Pennys/Sears brand, could be anything from a sporterized Mauser to a Mossberg. Yes, many years ago those stores actually had real sporting goods!

Hey there! Welcome!

Western Field, as pointed out, was a Montgomery Ward house brand. There were a number of manufacturers for the rifles and shotguns. Savage, stevens. mossberg, etc.

I ran into a Western Field .30-06 a while back on a used rack that was made by Heyms out of West Germany. Heyms is a well respected manufacturer.

.30-06 is all the rifle you need for anything on the west coast or most anywhere for that matter.

Without knowing the model number it's hard to say who made your rifle.

Anyways....good luck hunting!
