Default Murders Creek

Going to head out to Murders Creek next week for a 6 day buck deer bowhunt. Anyone been out there recently? Seen anything good? Let me know, thanks!

Used to be great 15 years ago, overrun with hunters now.

Not sure where you plan on being, but be ready for tons of road hunters.

Thumbs down Re: Murders Creek

I hate to break this to you, but this is one of the most populated hunts in existence! Been there done that. Three times recently. I'm never gonna put in for that unit again, bow or rifle, until tag limits go way down. It doesn't matter how far you hike in, you'll run into someone else. Add Road hunters, beer cans, ATV's in illegal places, abandoned camps, garbage, etc., and you get all the non-outdoor experiences you don't want. Sorry, that's my take.

I did see a few "forkies" hanging in the campgrounds each year.

I was over there opening weekend. Around the burn we seen three bucks, 2 forks and a spike. Walked some of the closed roads and seen very little tracks. They are still logging the burn on top, seen one set of tracks up there. Seen the most deer down on the south fork, from dayville to road 24 (I think it's 24)

I agree that there is a bunch of people in this unit, but there are still plenty of places to get away from people. In Fact I only saw two hunters when we drew our Elk tags two years ago when I was out hunting. Both of these guy's were on horses.

Get away from the burn...find some creeks and you will find a ton of animals

I agree
I've bow hunted that unit for 10 years, I've only seen one person in the woods. Its not that hard, just gotta always be looking for new spots and not focus on weekend hunting only.

Wow that fork of the John Day where Murders Creek flowed into used to be the best fly fishing stream I have ever fished. After the droughts it all went bad. White fish city
