Re: looking to go goose hunting
I have been doing it for five years and it is the most fusterating hunt that I do. I think I have it all figured out and then nothing. I think in the future I'm going to do spring goose at the local tavern that has a bird hunting video game. I do think that we should of had some this year but we were a little lazy with our set up my .02 and they flared at the last second.

Re: looking to go goose hunting
Why don't you guys team up and go kill some geese. You don't need great decoys, or calling, or even a great hide- ofcourse these things help, but not necessary in September. What you do need, are GEESE.
If you guys aren't having good luck in september, it is because you are not setting up where there were geese the day before
You guys get together and drive around SW washington and look for geese and knock on doors. Do NOT hunt anywhere until you have geese.
When you hunt, if the birds are coming, don't call. Leave the dog in the truck or at home if you want to kill geese.
Good luck

Re: looking to go goose hunting
Great advice from Dave, as always!
We all started out this way...As Dave mentioned find the geese. At least 50% of goose hunting is really goose scouting. Knock on a few doors and try to get access.
Make a note of where the geese are on the property and come back the next morning. Your number one focus at this point should be hiding. Get you blinds set so they are invisible. Throw out a couple decoys...I usualy just use 6-12 for the early season. Leave the calls in the truck and just wait for the birds. Calling can really help you in Sept, but can also really hurt you if not mastered.
Hunting geese in Sept isnt as hard as a lot of folks think...You just need to be on the birds!
Good Luck!

They tried that.
I think what we have here is very accomplished duck hunters, attempting to learn the ways of park geese.
Dave, can you give a seminar on that at the next OWF.
