Default Halibut fishing .. tentative .. job permittin

Hey everybody, my name is John and I have a little room in my freezer for some more of the tender white meat.

I have to be in Roseburg for a startup that begins on June 10 (ptI) and should last a week. That means I am free for the 19, 20 and 21 June for a Halibut mission. Another possibility is that the startup will get done quickly and i'll be out Friday and back the following Monday for PtII. :depressed:

Hence the term "Tentative".

So, there are several of you that volunteered for sea duty on my sturdy craft. Jen will not fish this time because of family concerns. That means I need 6 riders. Thursday the 19th is the most likely to get canceled, Friday looks pretty good and Saturday is a sure thing.

The boat record is now at 78# and 54" (S. Rockpile, Salmon rod, Skein, May 2003) for biggest single fish and 170# for (72#, 48#, 50#, Johnboy, Gary, Mr. F, Chicken ranch drivethru, May 2002) triple hookup on one drop. That single fish number looks like it will be hard to beat but you new guys are all welcome to ride along and try to beat it.

The following are the guys that I know want to go and have never been fishing on 'Pilar' for Halibut before.

Hoggemin
Coldsteel
Ragnar
Blubeast
Petermac
Big Tule

Hummingbird is on the list but he would rather I took a never been if need be. That's just the kind of guy he is. Thanks Tom. Tacklebuster was on the original crew list and you should call me or post here if that still interests you, Chris.

This is kind of a check ride for me. Later this summer when I need some hands for TUNA! madness or someone asks me what I think about ??? in the boat I can say something like ... "Oh, yeah, his old lady is the original Halibut killer!! and he is pretty awesome too." (Skein and Janis  )

TUNA! is the kind of trip you want to take friends on. It is way too extreme a trip to be getting a few miles offshore on a 150 mile, 12 hour trip before finding out that your fishing partner is not as TUNA! happy as you are.

So guys let me know what days you can go and lets figure out a roster.

The word around the campfire is that the new fish camp at Otter Rock will happen again, courtesy of Skein and Blubeast. BluBeast will have something to say about that in another post.

Dale, I would love to come and stay with you again. What day are you fishing, Dale?

Pilar, I would like to out with you sometime if you don't mind taking out a rookie with no salt water experience and no gear. I always read the salty dogs board and want to try it out soooo bad, just don't know anybody that fishes out there and am a little shy about asking for rides. Have no problem helping out with gas and anything else.

If you have a spot for me that would be awsome  if not maybe another time.

John- Thanks for invite but I thought you were already booked. Capt K offered me and my mate a seat so we are going to go for round 2. I would love a rock pile trip in the near future if a seat comes up.

Thanks bro,
Chris

Pilar,
Thanks for the kind words and the Hali trip last round. I really enjoyed it. I still want to go out for Tuna when the water warms and the Big Blue lays down better. You are a good Captain and Person as well. . Again, I can usually go on "Reel" short notice. I still want to get those rigs ,so maybe I can hook -up with ya sometime soon. Take care and Tight Lines, Tom

Pilar, outstanding! I could make things happen for either Friday the 20th or Saturday the 21st. I have quite a bit of experience as a deck hand on puker boats in Homer, AK, but none on your sturdy craft. I am no stranger to being beat about the head with 2lbs. of lead. Maybe that's what's wrong with me? I have my own rod and reel. I am lacking those fancy leaders and leads though. Goes without saying I'd help with the petrol or whatever I can do.
Can ya hook a brother up? What port will you heading out from? I'll probably need to get down there the night before if it's too far.
What a terrific offer. Thanks,
Ragnar

Pilar, Good luck out there and hope you guys get the big one. I thinks its great that you offer people rides hopefully we can hook up sometime in the future. I'm game for any kind of ocean fishing so if you ever need somebody to ride along let me know.

Coldsteel, Ragnar asked at a TA meeting so I'm going to take him this time. There will be more flattie days in August if nothing else.

Alas my boat is too small to take more than a pair at a time.

Ragnar, Newport, S. Beach Marina. I am in the thrashing around phase that happens before the big road trip for work. I'll try to organize a list of who and what day in the next day or so. We may be staying at Blubeasts cabin and Skein's trailer but that has not been organized yet either.

Anyhow, if it works out, I'd like to put my name in for the 21st?

Thanks again,

Coldsteel, it looks like one of the above mentioned is otherwise obligated. Are you still interested? Call me (503) 348-2337 or Email.

Ok it's early but here goes. Ragnar Email me so I have your address and can send you the intro Email. I went by who was available and on what day. Hanging out at fish camp might get you a canceled seat or unplanned vacancy. So if you want more days on other boats, walk the docks the night before the day you don't have a ride.

Thursday, June 19
Hoggemin
Coldsteel
Pilar

Friday, June 20
Blubeast
Ragnar
Pilar

Saturday, June 21
Big Tule
PeterMac

The Fish camp is happening again .. it's on another thread. Anyone fishing with me has a place to stay the night before they fish. I might be slow to answer today through Friday but try the cell phone (503)348-2337. And I will check the email once a day if it is at all possible. If they have Email in Roseburg ...

Thanks Skein and Blubeast.
