Default Live from Maui

Here's a quick saltwater fix for all you guys (and gals) stuck at work.....

Spent the day trolling jigs and live bait off Molokai.....we caught Mahi Mahi and Wahoo....water was 78 degrees...seas were calm (actually flat) with a 5 knot wind....got back to the condo and bbqd up some Wahoo with fresh greens and Hawaiian sweet bread.....and to think just a few weeks ago we were slugging it out in sloppy seas for the mighty halibut...what a change...

Oh ya...as we were heading in we were putting up the brag flags....all I forgot was my Salty Dog burgee.....it would have fit right in!

Guy caught a 952lb blue marlin on Monday.....

Off to bed...another tough day on the water for tomorrow.......I would post pics but I haven't figured that out yet!

Day 2 was utter pandemonium at times.....I will leave it at that.....

Taylors Viewpoint.....good call on the Finest Kind.....I fished this week with Ryan on the Reel Hooker...catching was great but the new things learned made the trip....

I define pandemonium as having more hookups and potential hookups than people.....there were only 2 of us on the boat yesterday (37' Bertram) plus the skipper and deckhand....

After a couple hours of obligatory trolling we got a call from another boat that was really laying the wood to the wahoo....so, we picked up ran to the northern tip of Molokai....dropped our jigs and instantly one rod went down....let my father in law fight that one....nice Mahi Mahi....then it started....the skipper was up in the tower...he spotted multiple Dorado....we were stripping the jigs off and throwing on dead baits and casting right behind the boat as fast as we could as my f-i-l held his fish 20 yards behind the boat......stick one fish, grab a new bait and back out....hook up! Blood, fish, slime everywhere....

Next pass 1 rod down...then 2.....then 3....we picked up several Wahoo on that stop.....

Next pass...1 rod down....then 2...then 3....more Wahoo....you get the idea.....

Alas darkness was coming soon and we had to get back.....

We were using new Tiburon reels with automatic 2 speeds.....it shifts from 6.0 to 2.8 and back automatically based on line tension....for those interested, retrofit kits are available for TLD's.....

I just love it when I make a recommendation and it lives up to the expectations. The group at Finest Kind will work at getting the customer into fish. Enjoy the ride. I'm just sitting here putting together the next Halibut trips. Wishing I was back fishing off Maui.
