Default Sorry slackers story,1st post

Sorry it took me so long to put this up but my 2 finger typing takes so long I hate to do posts that are very long.

I have a couple experiences to relate that happened to me in the eddy up at Bonny 1 day.

The first was a well learned lesson. As I was realing up to check my bait I noticed some line fouled in mine.Thinking I would do a good thing, but not thinking it through. I decided to pull up the old line and throw it in my garbage.I pulled up 20-30 ft of line when it came tight. Not thinking I wrapped it around my arm and hand and headed to the front of the boat.I walked back pulling up the rest of the slack, made another wrap and headed for the front of the boat.A few steps forward and it started pulling back.I instantly knew how stupid it was of me to pull in line that way.Especially with an oversize sturgeon pulling on the other end.I was really worried that I was going to lose at least a couple fingers. But fortunately got it loose. That was 1 quik lesson.

The next incident was a little funnier.

My Dad and I were shooting the breeze.Waiting for our next bite when I heard some hootin & hollerin behind us.We turned around just in time to see ahuge gator jump, and the guys fighting it coming down river towards us.
As they got closer I told them I would reel in if the fish started to come over our way. They said we should be alright, and to keep fishing.A couple minutes later I hear a loud snap!! A few choice words. And see a bewildered looking guy standing there with a wooden rod butt n his hand, and everything from there up missing.

Well after watching that for awhile I decide its time to check my bait again.I start reeling in and after a few feet my line comes tight. Then it starts taking off.I tell my Dad that I got a big one on.And start fighting it.After about 15 min I start slowly gaining on this big fish.I fight it a little longer and we look down in the water where my line is,and see something coming up towards us.As we're trying to figure out what it is I finally get it close enough to the boat and we can see that I have a fishing rod hooked in the eye on the very tip.We get it in the baot and its the 1 the other guys broke off. They saw we were fighting big fish.Stuck around to see it and see their pole come out of the water at the same time we do.With their fish still hooked!!!I tell them to come on over and they could have the whole works back.We make the exchange and they have 1 guy holding the pole and the bottom of the reel. And the other guy cranking the handle. After a few more minutes of doing serious battle with this fish it finally breaks off. And swims away.

We did end up getting a couple keepers and a bunch of shakers. The weather was beutiful. And we went home with some fish. And memories to last a life time.

Rick
