Default Hey - you new Salty Pups - looky here

Jennie has a contest going for anyone with under 10 posts. Post your best tip (only one tip allowed) Be careful cause every post you make increments the counter on all your posts. So.. if you post up to 10 on the contest thread you can't post on any thread until after the contest closes.

How about a contest for the unemployed?

No, there's too many of them, especially on this board! I'll have to think of another way to win.

It seems that we have way too many Dogs not workin' Is there anything we can do to improve that situation? Any way to match jobs with fishing friends that have the "right" skills and experience? I don't have an answer but it feels like we should be able to help more than we do....

Realizing that this is not fish related, but like WP said, we need to take care of each other so we can all fish together more. I'm always taking resume's, and work is picking up! If you're interested, check out our website....www.marlerenterprises.net....and e-mail me your resume' if you qualify for any of what we do.

Pilar:

If the wind is coming from a high in the ocean to a low inland, isn't that an "onshore wind".
Just curious.

bllelk- I saw the same thing then realized he's refering to the winds "on the ocean" (offshore), not the direction of the wind.

So its the location of the wind not the direction. My kid (coastie) and I have that debate frequently.

I found this contest intrigueing when at the same time was contemplating if land thermals have a great impact on coastal conditions (since we're having that high ridge over us this week) and how all that got factored into predictions if indeed there was such a thing. The answer is yes that it does exist and it's called land-sea breeze, I believe... after painfully trying to understand some NASA and Harvard bla de bla on the net and then was going to contact the coast guard or my local meteorologist for confirmation on that, and an answer if they factor thermals in sea conditions, thinking it might benefit smaller boaters.... but I blew all my posts on selling my stuff in your classifieds, because I was laid off. My prelim conclusion is going to be no on impact on coastal conditions when in the middle of a ridge of high pressure. My advise though anyway, is to always wear sunscreen on days like these especially out on the water. The rays are magnificant. I'm still curious about the wind stuff and will continue my search unless some of you sci fi people know the answer. How about a contest for the biggest runon sentence?

Seastripes ... the heat low in the valley is the main cause of the winds offshore in the early summer. It happens every year. A high pressure area parks itself offshore and then sun heats air in the valley and causes a thermal low to form on the east side of the coast range.

The result is a north to northwest wind from the high pressure to the low. If it is cloudy most of the day the wind is minimal or not at all. But an hour or so after the sun pops out and you should be on the beach having a cold one because the wind is gonna blow you off the ocean.

This is why I advise new boaters on the ocean to plan trips for an early departure and a return by noon.
