Do you want some crab pots?
"Do you want some crab pots?" is what my buddy says on the phone.
He tells me he found 30 of them at a garage sale and picked them up for me for free. Of course I say "sure bring them by"
I get home today to see 30 is really 10, and crab pots are really shrimp pots   This guy is from Utah and is home schooled
Now what am I gonna do with 10 shrimp pots, rope and floats??

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Uh, Roy... I know a guy with a map...
Pilar got a hot tip from Puffin on Sunday. From what I understand, the spot could be rough on gear. FREE would be good gear to experiment with.

Well, the good news is...it's 10 instead of 30!

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Roy, being a newly qualified crew member and entry level shrimp experimenter gives you certain .. uh ... responsibilities.
Like keeping your Captain in shrimp gear for example!!!!
Call me bro, I can give your gear a good home.
BTW, 'Puffin's' spot is in shallow water near something known as 'Tacklebuster'. He was on a charter and every seabass coming into the boat was spitting up U-10 prawns. 130 ft of water .. and I have the number.
Muh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Roy- I'll take a couple and see if I can find a fishery up North for us. My bottom spot has all the right makings around the outside.
Going to have to clean the garage though to make more room. :depressed:

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
I would buy two from you. I lost two pots on May 17th. The one pot was a Cushman Special (Brand New) 1st time soaked. Line went down, must have had a bunch of loops tangled. The second pot was lost when we made the 1st pull and the spring clamp opened some how, got the buoy but lost the pot. To top off a bad day we were short by 180 shrimp of our limit. That's the 1st time in 8 years we were short on shrimp.
Mel, you are nuts to pull those pots up from 500'. I might let you try my new electric reel, that might be the ticket.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
I didn't say I was gunna pull them. That's what open seats are for. I gotta drive da boat!
Sides- if they aren't full they aren't heavy. If they are full, it's worth it!
Hey Kamloops- get over to the main board and post 5 of your best tips. Contest for new members. Okuma reel is the prize. Don't wast e any more posts here until after the contest.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Mel, I will be the most involved member of the board when Salmon and Tuna start. As of now I have nothing to report other than a zero Halibut trip, two zero Sturgeon trips.
Hope my Salmon trips this year will break me out of this funk.
See ya at the dock June 21 + -.
Oh Yeh, forgot about my great Shrimping fiasco.
From the pictures of those Shrimp pots, they are the good ones.

Welcome back!

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Gee thanks Rod
I lathed up 8 of them last night when I got home and had some road rage built up after a miserable commute from vancouver to vent out of myself via sawdust  Amazing how much punishment you put to a piece of wood making yourself feel better.
Can you tell me if the needle eye hook will go in the 1/4 inch hole in the tail of the plug?? I havent been able to find any of the needle eye hooks to test it.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
If you decide to shrimp in Puget Sound (where there are known populations of spot prawns), you can only have 4 per boat or 2 per person. Keep 4 and move the others.
Mel, those pots are heavy without shrimp. Get a puller fer sure.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
BOE, look at the store bought Cedar plugs, they each come with a pin hook. Also I have a few and could give you one. I only had to dump out all of the hook bins ( puffin and I did this one afternoon ) at Delta park Fishermans Marine to find them. They were not amused and did not have an SKU to ring them up. We gave em a quarter a piece for em.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Hey Roy, I'm light on Tuna gear and Shrimp pots.
I would be delighted to take two of the pots for a reasonable price.
I have a couple of Cedar plug hooks with your name on them.
Post here, drop me an email or let me know some how.
I am still in Ireland for at least the next three weeks.
I hope to hear from you soon...

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Was that Tacklebuster Reef out of Dopey Bay Pilar?
Hope it's less snaggy on shrimp pots than it is on tackle.
Never heard of anybody doing any shrimping out of hear. Don't know why, they are out there.
Rather eat those than dungies myself.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
BOE,
Here is one source for the hooks you need:
http://www.srmo.com/
Search for part numbers M341290 and M3412100. These are 9/0 and 10/0 needle hooks, $1.30 ea.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Not on the reef, Dan but SW of there on another smaller reef.
I know what you are saying though. That Tacklebuster cycles up and down from over a hundred and on up to 30 or 40. The sonar was pretty hard to beleive the first time I drifted over it.
Must be why they call it Tacklebuster.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Sort of off subject but, where can I find 9/0 or 10/0 Mustad #3412 needle eye hooks for cedar plugs.
PS:
Back on subject.
1. Put your pots on structure, deeper in the day time, the bottom of the drops.
2. Put a small anchor on your pot line to buffer the wave action on the pot.
3. Give surplus shrimp to Keta
#3 is the most important

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
Keta - I have done some searching and the best price I can find on a 3412 needle eye is
$48.20/100 9/0
$55.30/100 10/0
plus about $5 freight.
I was at the store last night and looked at the needle eye hook in a packaged cedar plug, it should fit easily in the 1/4 hole.
Prices above are for the long shank hook, they also have a short shank hook
Somebody wanna split a box of needle eye hooks?? size?? (god help me, I am buying and making tuna tackle and have never even felt the hot blood upon my face and hands)
On a side note: I cant believe all the emails I have received from concerned people who are willing to ease my burden of having 10 shrimp pots dropped in my driveway.

Re: Do you want some crab pots?
I could use 25-50 of the hooks if you want to split an order, either size. Let me know and I will send you some $$.$$
I could also help you get rid of some of those unsightly "crab pots"
