Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
Ok! I will give you some advise! Go punch that guy in the nose for selling ya that boat!LOL! No don't! Well if ya get a good motor for her ya can maybe go in the bays and go crabing and trolling! But by no means even think of taking her thru any of the jettys to the big blue! You will be looking for more trouble then you want! Good luck with your new boat! .....Shakerfish!....

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
Learned to ski behind a P-14...a long time ago. I think it was rated for a 40hp so we lived large and dropped a 55hp Chrysler on her.
Fun on the lakes and the price is right. Not the right boat for the salt though.

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
You just bought a classic boat!! Kinda like a 55 Chevy. Fix her up and take her out in any(almost) bay or lake in Oregon. The old P-14s are a heritage of the earliest fiberglass boats made. Gotta luv'em!! B.M.

All thru college we skied almost daily behind a 15 ft. Seaswirl with a 75 HP Merc engine. Great set-up.

P - 14 boat advice, please...
I just recently got an oldie but a goodie 14' Seaswril P - 14 boat. Total price was $50 (no, really...) I couldn't pass that! I'm in need of two things, one being advice on what these boats are capable of & what they're not, and she's also missing a couple parts. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I might find parts, or maybe someone has a pile in their yard somewhere.....
I appreciate very much any information anyone's willing to share.

Lovestfish,
I am a member of the Pacific Northwest Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS). We are a club that promotes and preserves classic boats.
The new age of plastic/fiberglass was not widely used in boat construction till the mid 50's. After the late 60's most boat manufacturers
quit the use of hardwoods I.E. Chris Craft, Century and retooled to fiberglass.
Our club has been busy rethinking it's reliance on wood boats and now seeking these classic fiberglass models. The Glastron P-14 boats have been actively sought after by members for restoration.

Oh Yeh, I also learned to Ski behind a P-14 on Vashon Island in the late 60's. The outboard was bigger than the boat.

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
Thanks to everybody for the responses! A lot of people have said, 'Oh yeah, I remember those!', or 'I used to ski behind one...' I also hear "DON'T go out in the ocean - it's too small!"
Crabbait - I called Seaswirl - they're rated for up to a 50 hp motor; it should go plenty fast with the 35 I found. I can't imagine being behind a 75 hp motor!
BM - Yeah, seems they are (were) real popular boats until Americans got into the bigger/faster is better mode...... Seaswril stopped maiking them in 1970 I think.
Kamloops, I'd be interested in hearing more about your club.. and btw, mine was made in 1962, according to the title.

Pretty cool little boat. I have seen several while trolling the lower Nehalem. I saw one last year that was fully restored with bright red and white paint and seats, really neat to look at.

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
When I was a kid my parents owned a p-14 with a 35hp Johnson on the back of it. They pulled skiers with it in fact if I remember right they where actually able to get two skiers up at once.
As a kid it seemed really fast to me

Lovestafish
The Columbia Chapter of ACBS has their yearly
Boat Show this June 28th at the Tommahawk Bay Marina. The show as I understand this year will be a Rose Festival event, should be fun and interesting way to spend your Saturday.

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
I use too have one also and just reciently sold it for 1000$ with the original trailer, had a top and a flasher, I think the value is in clean boats with good windshields, the man I bought it from crabbed and fished the ocean out of Newport with it. I think he must not have gone far!

Re: P - 14 boat advice, please...
1K huh? good price, I'd say.....
My windshield has a crack in it,
& I'd like to find a new one, but
haven't had much of a chance to
look lately, & cost might be a factor....
What do you mean by a "flasher"?
