Default Tillamook Co. Road Dept.: Great people!

I got home last night from a great day of fishing, only to discover my wallet missing. First came panic, then depression, and finally acceptance- it was gone. I cancelled my cards and spent an hour at the DMV today getting a new drivers license.

The came the phone call early this evening. I'll let you read the letter I just emailed (and will also snail mail) to the Tillamook County Road Department.

Dear Sir or Madam,

With much enthusiasm, I feel honored to write this letter of appreciation regarding one of your employees, Rick Kjemperud. A few minutes ago, Rick called me from his home to inform me that he had found my wallet while working for your department today along the [*** ] Road. Yesterday, I had lost it while fishing the [*** ] River, and was convinced that it was gone. Apparently, it had dropped out of my truck while I was loading up my gear. I had already cancelled my credit cards and obtained a new driver’s license.

Rick informed me that all my money was still in the wallet, and that he was eager to get it back to me. We have set it up so that he will bring it to the administrative office on Thursday, and I will be in to pick it up Friday afternoon.

I am very pleased that Rick displayed true honor by tracking down the owner of the wallet he found. He took it upon himself to call my employer (whose number he got off one of business cards), and then call me- both times at his own expense. His perseverance and determination made my life much less stressful. For that, I am deeply indebted to him.

In my opinion, you have an outstanding individual in your workforce. Mr. Kjemperud is a person of the highest integrity. He is a “class act” public employee for whom you should be happy to be working for both you and me.

Very truly yours,

[spud]

I commend the worker for his actions of tracking down the rightful owner of the wallet. I had my credit cards stolen from buoy 10 last year, it took me a month to put my life back together.
The credit card compaines eating over $12,000 and the police stating that they had no man power to track the criminals down I can sympathize with you.. you were one of the lucky ones..
I wish there were more individuals like the gentleman from the road crew in the world!! I hope you bought the guy a beer for his efforts.. congrats on getting your wallet back , and a here here to the road crew worker!

Kudos. It just goes to show that those of us in the public services are good people. Hopefully Tillamook County will give this man a comendation!

Great story. I think there are more people like that than some of us realize. Good deeds are contagious.

I have known and worked with Rick for a lot of years, and the story does not suprise me one bit. He and his family are the best!! Your also right Tillamook County workers are great, and so are Tillamook County people. Glade you got your wallet back. That is why I moved to Tillamook County in 1976.

It's great to hear of your good luck. I went to school with Rick and his brother Terry, they were good guys back then and it is good to hear the highway dept. was smart and gave a good man a job.

24/48 - thanks for taking the time to tell Rick's boss aobut doing something right. It is easy to complain about public employees doing wrong but it is much better to recognize them for doing right. Their daily efforts in our behalf rarely get publicized.
