Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Big Tule, I may get out on 19, 20 and 21 if I can steer the sawmill startup in Roseburg to miss those dates.
It would be nice to get the new guys on the boat that I missed on the first go round. If possible I plan to fish all 3 days. But the plan is tenuous at best. Sad to say that work comes first at least when commissioning new equipment. And startup schedules change frequently for no reason at all.
The short list includes
My girl Jen
Hoggemin
Lucky Luke
Blubeast
Petermac
Big Tule?
And that leaves maybe one spot if I fish all 3 days.
I know Hummingbird would also like to go again but he got one day in already. You're in, Tom if one of the never beens can't make it.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
I too am planning to fish the 19th and 20th. My ability is tentative also. I will only fish if the new boat has completed her shakedown run.
I have to be in Tacoma at 1400hrs Saturday the 21st for my brothers wedding.
Next weekend I will slide the Tbird into the NP bay and from there we will determine her fitness.
The boat will fish 6 pretty easily. The following are on the short list. Let me know if you wish to be removed or if I forgot you.
Randy and Rick (guys we bought the boat from)?
Wayne
Keta
WildHawg
Chinook_Hunter? (co-owner of boat)
Threemuch
Hoggemin
Woody (2)
Vandel (we met at the RAM right?)
SKSPAWNER
8knots
I like to open up seats to people I have not had the pleasure to fish with as well as those who's company I enjoy.
Warning:
If you fish with me you must be able to run with the Big Dogs!
I do not care if you get sick. It won't bother me the least.
The only problem with that is "I don't care if you get sick".
You have to be able to hang until everyone who wants to fish is done.
Donations to the Tbird fund are accepted and all deckhands will be expected to participate in a thorough swabing of the decks upon return.
Anyone who fails to do so will not be invited back.
That said; who wants on the list? Big Tule?

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Greg,
Don't be getting a big head, but I am truly impressed with your attitude towards getting others invoved in fishing the salt. I am not saying this JUST because I am looking forward to our next adventure offshore  , rather because it's people like you who put the "salt" in "Salty Dogs".
I am proud of the fact you listed me on your "short list", and even prouder to call someone like yourself a new friend.
Of course, you are not the only one...and at the risk of sounding sappy (I've been away from home for near 10 days--I miss you folks!), not to mention entirley redundant--this is one of the best vehicles for meeting like minded folks who I'd be proud to call my friends I've ever found in my life.
Ask people...and ye shall receieve receive, thanks to the too many to possibly list (you know who you are if we've met) people who make this the most happenin' place on the internet for both the daring landlubber and the crustiest of the Scurvin' Cheebobbin' Salty Dogs!!
Greg, thanks just one last time--and I loved the line about not caring if you're sick!!
Folks, it aint no joke, sea sickness makes some people want to jump overboard just to end it all...literally !! Know what you are capable of before you venture out on a long haul.
If you aint got sea legs, you best stay nearshore--and no...Fishplay wasn't kidding about runnin' with the Big Dogs . If you can cut the mustard--you just might have the time of your life!!!
P.S. (my edit) As a part time editor Greg, I suggest you change "donations are excepted" to accepted or expected This could potentially lead to a misunderstanding at the fuel dock

Put me on the list, if not for this upcoming halibut, for some other trip. Can't wait to see the new rig.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Mrs. Woody (Vickie) and I are planning a vacation beginning on Friday, June 20. Any possibilities for a couple of open seats for Friday or Saturday of Halibut season. We are not complete rookies as far as the ocean goes, but have no experiece or gear for 'buts. The usual arrangements apply, will pitch for fuel, bait, buy you breakfast, scrub the head, swab the deck, etc.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Charlie,
Thanks for pointing out my mistake except and accept do indeed have different meaning.
Upon further proof reading I found I missed the "R" in determine....you let me down on that one Chuck.
Thanks for the kind words all the same.
Kurt,
Your in anytime. At this point I have serious doubt that those ? marked will fill seats. I certainly will need your expertise when Tuna Time comes.
Hoggemin,
Your welcome to fill a spot for salmon. Remind me if I forget you.
Keta,
I hope you can make it but understand work comes first. I appreciate you letting me know as soon as possible.
I will post an update next weekend.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
So you want some credentials huh... Well i know i can run with the Big Dogs... I am one of them... Have you ever been through a hurricane off of the mexico coast in a 445 foot ship taking 35 degree rolls with 45 foot breakers... well some were sick and they were in there rack while i stood extra hours of watch because i do not get sick. Oh i will deffinatly help with gas and the swabbing of the deck, remember i am expierenced at that aspect (being a swabbie and all) I really am not picky, i will go out in the big blue with just about anybody. I know how to read a compass and tie knots. I just do not have the gear for butt fishing. I have the salmon stuff but not for halibut. If you have an open seat i will go.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Big Tule, I'm sure you've heard ... There are boats designed to sink and then there are targets.
The question I have for you is can you resist setting the hook on 50 or 60 pounds of Halibut? I have the gear and the know how. You have to have the patience to learn fishing with circle hooks. And that means you set the hook by cranking the reel not jerking the pole.
If you can do that then join me on one of the next set of FB days and take a shot at the boat record. Currently that stands at 78 pounds and is held by 1st timer Skein.
See ya then shipmate.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Pilar, count me in... I will get the day off. And i will get the new boat record, if i can just refrain from setting the hook... That will be a tough one... Yes i was on a target but man i miss it. I will be heading back to a target in about a year and a half and i can not wait. But untill then i have to rely on somebody else to help me get out on the big blue, which i do not like very much but i will deal with it. But i am very excited about hooking my first halibut... Just let me know what day i need to get off as my wife is excited about going to the beach now.

Re: Any open spots for Halibut in June???
Thanks for includng me, Fishplay. I'm waiting to hear furhter deatils from you as the dates approach. This will let me know if my boat would be seaworthy on the big blue as well as a chance to meet more ifishers. Most of my halibut experience has been in Canada and Olympic Peninsula, but I still have my sea legs. Thanks again,
Sunny
