Who cares???? Are you going hop a flight to the Gulf and go for one?

Atlantic Bluefin are a species totally different than the Pacific Bluefin. Pacific Bluefin rarely get bigger than 300#. Not because they are overfished but that is all she wrote. Besides off The Pacific NW the only bluefin here are usually juvies. I have yet to see a sport caught bluefin that was humongous off the Pacific NW.

How rude.

I care as a matter of fact.

I find photos like that very interesting. It shows you what is really out there. Just because we don't live in LA doesn't eman it's not interesting.

Timmy-San, pay no attention to Sensei-San when he gets like that. He's a real gentleman most of the time. But nowdays he spends more time in front of the computer than fishing, and he throws out a line like that to see if someone bites.

PBR I'm sorry if I stepped on your toes. If you have followed the plight of the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna you would have a different attitude. Yes, there are some humongous fish and trying to catch one has driven that fishery for centuries. Now there are only a handful. The loss of a fish that size has a significant impact on the stocks.

When I was younger I wanted to catch anything that humongous. But now I realize that in doing so we have selectively shrunk the gene pool of many species. Many salmon runs in the Pacific NW have been impacted by selective fishing. It is scientifically proven that some runs are significantly smaller than historic record. Taken all the variables, mans intervention by fishing is the chief culprit.

Yes a grander bluefin is a sight to behold. But a 100# bluefin caught on 20# test would be just as fun and better eating.

I don't think I'd want to be swimming in the water with that fish around.

Do you actually eat a fish like that or is it cat food?

If that's the kind of tuna that I think it is, the Japanese would pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for it....it is coveted for sushi.

Sensei san ... grander anything is getting rare on the East Coast. Schools of those huge Bluefin used to run through the shoals off Bimini.

They haven't been seen there in awhile.

The fish won't be as big but I can picture one of your smiling faces on this web site with like a 300# fish.

Bring it on!

I'm pretty sure a 100lb blue fin is a prize for the table, but I wonder if a 1100 pounder is like a huge halibut, not the best eating. Halibut are better table fare in the 50-75 lb range not the 300 lb range. If this big blue fin is a good eating fish, then it's a freezer full......or two, or three!!

No stepping on anything here. I'm learning the value of the larger fish in the sea.....

My buddy caught a nice 9# Cabezon off of Newport last fall. When we came back in and the ODFW person weighed it, some jerk walked by and made a really snide comment about it. Instead of saying, "nice fish, those are really slow to grow, should have thrown it back". I would have gotten the hint.

I remember the photos of the 20 FOOT Sturgeon they first pulled out of the Willamette and Columbia in the late 1800's early 1900's. I wish there were still a few of them around. There may be a few but no one's seen any in a while.

OK, Pitch, you got me curious. Did a little research:

bluefin

The most paid for 1 fish was $80K. The hundreds of thousands of $$ I mentioned was bad second hand info. I think that, unlike halibut, the big ones are the best.
