Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
Here is a couple very small pics I received on my cell phone of a bull shot in the Wenaha unit from a guy who either got the Governor's tag or an auction tag...I don't have the whole story yet.
Apparently the guide has been watching this bull for some time. It is a 9x10 and apparently green scored 466...yes...I said 466. I will get better pics sometime next week and will post them then.

Jon Wick does it again.....as I'm sure he was probably the guide.
My very educated guess anyway.

That is one incredible BULL. That is not Mr. Holmes in the picture. I believe Mr. Holmes has the governors tag this year.

What a specimen!
I was thinking it might be the same bull that shed these antlers 2 years ago, but doesn't look quite right?

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
I just like knowing that bulls of that size still exist (or did- he he). He probably passed on his genes plenty of times over the years. Neat that we're finally managing some trophy areas- not so much for the trophy aspect, but just to allow some natural and normal hierachy's with fully mature bulls. I bet that sucked to be an archer who drew that tag the hard way and heard the KABOOM. Money maybe can't buy love, but if it can buy a bull like that , I could live with that

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
Boy Ron, those sheds sure look like the same bull to me. He changed a little on the top, but they have pretty similar characteristics.
Either way that is one heck of a bull.... unfortunately now every crazy will be putting in for Oregon tags

After it is all said and done, what do you think the cost of that elk? 100,000 dollars, 120,000 dollars, the experience is priceless.

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
I am gonna go out on a limb and say those sheds are from the same bull. Look at the tops and the thirds all he has done is grow inches in 2 years or a year or whatever.
That is truly a monsterous bull of world record praportions if he nets well for a non-typical. Whether he was shot in Oregon or shot in Washington it doesnt really matter because the bull was probably killed in the Umatilla National forest which many of you know runs inbetween washington and oregon.
A Monster of a bull thats for sure and I think the best part is that its obvious who shot the animal and who the guides are. The guides have a look like OMG we have one heck of a pack and the hunter is like WOOHOO I took one of the largest free roaming elk ever taken anywhere in the US!!!!

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
Those are the sheds from this bull. The bull was taken with a rifle...
The bull will score (SCI) 448 gross and 435 net This was fairly conservative, so he might be bigger when the oficial scoring will take place. I looked at this bull for a long time and it is truely amazing!!!!

Trust me, I have nothing to do with those sheds except drool over them on my computer. I heard the kid was offered $8000 for them when they were first found, but I never heard if they changed hands or not. With the bank account D. Agnew has, he should buy those sheds to go with the animal he just "kilt".
The fella that sent me the shed pics lives east of Walla Walla and said they were picked up on private land in Washington. He also said that the bull they came off usually summers and rut's in Oregon. So who knows?
Gotta go hunting, later!

In case anyone needs clarification.........this is a Washington bull, killed in a national forest, and not with John Wick. One of Johns sub guides was used with permission from the forest service.

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
Monster bull for sure but really it would be hard to not take a monster bull in any of the limited entry Wa/OR units where this fella had a tag. They allow only a few permits each year and drawing a tag is about like winning the lotto. A friend just drew one for the Wenaha here in Oregon after 14 yrs! Get out there with a rifle and pick the one you want.

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
Need to quailfy that you will be hunting with the spike hunters so it is not the same as with this tag he was there during the rut and with a rifle... and no other rifle hunters. Although money well spent for the state if it goes into the OFWD coffers it is still a tag bought. Money can get amazing results. In any case it is a monster bull and it was fair chase.

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
ehunter, just a friendly reminder...the same tag can be won in the A&H drawing yearly as well...for a potentially cheaper expense. Not sure if there is a difference between and tag bought and a tag won. Both tags raise a lot of dollars, and two hunters each year have a very sleepless summer
If you dropped $20 or $1000 on the raffle, I hope your guilt of "outdrawing" everyone else wouldn't keep you out of a premium unit (with your rifle) during archery season We'd all do the same thing I "suspect".
I have two friends that have drawn the statewide elk tag and both took quality bulls in the Wenaha with their rifles!

Although money well spent for the state if it goes into the OFWD coffers it is still a tag bought. Money can get amazing results. In any case it is a monster bull and it was fair chase.

Fair Chase? I guess by definition it is since the bull isn't caged in any way. However, the hunter is using a tag that only the very rich can afford while hunting in a unit during a period when no one else can hunt.
I live just miles away from where these monsters are at and believe me it doesn't take any "great hunting skills" to harvest a monster. The bulls get very little hunting pressure because there are so few permits allowed for them. Finding and harvesting a bull in the 350+ category is not that difficult, getting the tag is. Any seasoned elk hunter on this forum could harvest a bull of a lifetime in these units given the same opportunity.

Multiply that $1000 by a hundred or so to get the real figures.

No I agree that there is a chance we could draw, my point is that I wish the state would call it a trophy hunt and change the spike hunt until after the season. Sorry If I seemed to so flippiant and no I will never be able to afford the govenors tag although the odds of drawing the lottery raffle tag are almost as good And if I drew I would be going no doubt about it...

Re: Raffle tag mega bull out of the Wenaha
I have heard from a pretty good source that he had 10 guys looking for big bulls. Once they found a big one he wouldn't even come out until they sent him video of it. I'm sure once he saw video of that hog he high tailed it over there!
I just want to know how much he ended up paying for the thing. Nice bull, and congrats to him on being able to afford something like that!

Not that anyone cares, but I treasure "the hunt" more than "the kill".
