Default Cabazon rookie question?

I went fishing in the San Juans over the weekend and caught a 30" cabazon that was probably 14-15 lbs. In its belly was a 11" ling cod and she was full of eggs. Great eating by-the-by.

The few people we showed it to said it was a very big cab. Since this was my first one I ever caught...how big do they get?

What are some of the big ones other people have caught?

If I can figure out how to post the picture I will.

A thirty inch fifteen pound cabezon is extremely large. There goes the total genetics of that strain of cabezon. Most cabezon are in the 5-10# range. They are very territorial and easy to overfish. Divers call them grasshoppers as they will hop from their perch when they see you and come right back after you leave.

California state record cabezon:

Cabezon 23lb 4oz Los Angeles Apr. 20, 1958 Bruce Kuhn

Washington state record cabezon:

SCULPINS (family Cottidae) cabezon Scorpaenichthys marmoratus 23.00 lbs Wesley S. Hunter Dungeness Spit August 4, 1990

cabezon (spear gun) Scorpaenichthys marmoratus 25.20 lbs Tony L. Rossberg Hale Passage (near Fox Island) May 22, 1997

Could not find Oregon saltwater records. The largest recorded cabezon was 39" and over 25 pounds.

It seems to me I remembering hearing someone catching an Oregon record cabezon out of Yaquina Bay in recent years.
