Not where you go after fishing, but the one you have to cross to get to the fishing.
Buried in another post was a discussion between Pilar and Bill Monroe about bar information. So I thought I'd post this as a new topic so more people could access the information.
Here is a link to the Oregon State Marine Board site that has basic information on every bar in the state.
http://www.marinebd.osmb.state.or.us...ers/index.html
Just click on the port/river along the left side to get a basic description of the hazards and the layout of the bar.
If you are new to a bar as a minimum you should review this information first, since as Pilar said every bar is very different. Applying one rule to every bar won't work (such as stay in the middle, or on the North side or South side).
I cross the Umpqua bar quite a bit. In my opinion it's one of the most treacherous bars after the Columbia. You want to stay as close to the South jetty as possible. When it's rough you don't want to be anywhere near the middle or North jetty on this one.
Someone else can post information about the other kind of bars!
